Dr M: "Pak Lah bohong!"
UPDATED VERSION. If you are counting out Dr Mahathir after his failure to get elected as a national delegate to the Umno annual general meeting in Kubang Pasu Saturday, hold your horses. He has cranked up the strangling screws on Abdullah Ahmad Badawi by two notches.
The centrepiece to his new campaign today is his calling of Abdullah a liar. He also reiterated that he would not stop criticising the present government for all the misdeeds it has done.
He made three key points. First, he claimed money politics was involved in Saturday's delegates election in which Umno members were bribed to vote against him.
Two, the Khairy factor must be brought back into focus and appropriately dealt with again though the Son-in-Law has tried playing the racial cards against other Barisan Nasional component parties to divert Umno members' attention.
Three, Abdullah is asked to change his foreign policy and all his misdeeds, or he should get himself changed.
This morning, Dr Mahathir had two sessions to dislodge his new salvos through the press, one at the de-brefing to his party supporters, and the other at the press conference which was more jam-packed than last Monday's. I was an eye-witness at both functions.
In his opening remarks, Dr Mahathir said: "So I was defeated in Kubang Pasu? It was money that decided the day. I was defeated because of cheats and money politics. But 'moral victory' is still mine."
In his closing remarks, spoken in English for the benefits of the foreign Press, Dr Mahathir said:
"So you want to shut me up? So you want to cut me off? You can't shut me up because I have a big mouth.
And I am going to use this big mouth to expose the misdeeds of the government, and the misdeeds of this family-run government of Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi."
According to Dr Mahathir, money has changed hands and the going for Umno members to sell their maruah was just RM200. Out of 472 votes balloted, Mahathir obtained 227.
'Maruah Umno sekadar 200 ringgit'
Apparently, one female Umno member shook his hand in the traditional salam among Malays, and slipped in a piece of paper into his hand. It contained seven numbers of the canadidates contesting for the G7 national delegates. The slipped piece of preferred candidates' list -- much akin to the cai dan (menu) rampant in MCA elections -- was purported to be part of the content stuffed in brown envelopes. Each brown envelope was said to contain RM200.
"Itulah harga maruah ahli Umno sekarang, dua ratus ringgit," he said cynically.
Mahathir said he just took a quick glance of the prescribed candidates' list, but kept it. When the results were announced, Mahathir said he verified the list again and found all recommended candidates had won except No. 14. CandidateNo.14 was displaced by No. 10, who happened to be his son, Mukhriz, who was not listed as a recommended candidate.
His candidacy, listed as Number 1, was not included in the 'menu'.
Nevertheless, showing the slip of the preferred candidate to the photographers, Mahathir said he did not have concrit evidence that could stand the examination of the court, neither will there be any Umno members who are bold enough to lodge a police report or a complaint to the party's Disciplinary Committee.
"I don't trust the Disciplinary Committee. One of the committee members is (former Kedah menteru besar) Osman Aroff, who condemned me for giving him anything. I made him the menteri besar and he said I didn't give him anything? So you expect me to carry my complaint to him?" retorted Mahathir. Quoteable quite from Mahathir:
"For this small election, the state government mobilised resources making it look like a presidential election," he said."I say three cheers for this government ... you have used a big sledgehammer to kill a single mosquito. But this single mosquito is still right here!"
He said he was not causing Umno to split, and neither would he interfere in the running of the government.
Answering to a question on why he didn't emulate Lee Kuan Yew by becoming a senior minister after his retirement as the prime minister, he said he had no intention of coming back to lead the government. Quote
"I don't want to be a Lee Kuan Yew, or becoming a senior minister. I have no intention of coming back to the government. But I have a duty to correct things which go wrong to make sure that this country goes along the right path and to make sure that this country is not used by anybody for their own personal or family interest."
Describing the way he was treated in Umno as 'gantung tak bertali' (death without gallows), he said nobody can stop him from doing so unless he is put in jail.
'Pak Lah bohong!'
On the second salvo that "Pak Lah bohong" (Abdullah lies), Mahathir said he must put a stop allowing Khairy Jamaluddin, a person non-elected in the parliamentary proces nor does hold any government post, to manipulate the system.
He said several menteris besar had to change contractors of government projects after receiving phone calls from Khairy. He, however, admitted that these menteris besar would continue to deny this. Mahathir said he knew who these menteris besar are but he wouldn't reveal their names.
He also repeated his previous allegations that Khairy has planted his people at the 4th Floor of the PM's Office and other ministries. He also said menteris besar were so scared of the Son-in-Law that they had to wait-in-attendance for Khairy's arrival. Quote:
"The BN government has become a government of Abdullah's family members. He (Abdullah) can deny it but we know what (his son-in-law) Khairy is doing. "
Mahathir also blasted at Abdullah's announcement over the TV3 interview with Zaini Annuar that Scomi, the company in which the PM's son Kamaluddin Abdullah was the major investor, did not get any domestic projects within the country.
He said Scomi was given projects that required mandatory approval from Petronas, and the project amount totalled more than RM1 billion, and Abdullah should not claim ignorance over it.
For the first time, too, Mahathir volunteered information -- which has been well circulated in alternative media -- that Abdullah's name cropped up in the the official reports of the UN's Oil-for-Food Scandals. Mahathir said, though the company implicated belonged to Abdullah's sister-in-law, from the wife's side, Abdullah should ensure that he did not anything unsanctioned by the law.
Mahathir said Abdullah should know that no state exco members, deputy ministers and ministers should be involved in any commercial business deals, let alone a deputy prime minister who was holding office at the material time.
'Change, or you step down'
To a question from the media whether he wanted Abdullah replaced, Mahathir said: "Either he (Abdulah) changes or he steps down."
Mahathir said the NST is now in control of spin-doctors who are trained in Singapore. Are the 13 to 14 editors who left the NST that stupid that they have to be replaced by journalists from Singapore, he asked? But due to the spin-doctors who were trained in Singapore, he said, many things he said did not get reported in the Umno papers.
Asked to elaborate on how should Abdullah "change himself", Mahathir said:
"If he changes, it's OK. If he changes the foreign policy (and resolves to discard policies that are too pro Singapore, the US, the British and the Australians), restrore the editorial staff of the (New) Straits Times,.stop the ban on reporting about what I say, and allow me to talk to the people, then he can stay on as the prime minister.
Siti Hasmah walked in, refused offers of a chair, and stood symbolically behind his man. Meanwhile, Mahathir said he would soldier on.
He declined to answer whether he would attend the Umno AGM even though he was invited.
Mahathir leaves for a 10-day overseas trip this evening. If Umno discards Mahathir like plague, his viewers are certainly very much sought after in West Asia.
Little Birds told Screenshots that September 17, Dr Mahathir is scheduled to speak at the Breakthrough Leadership Excellence in a Dynamic World Conference 2006 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The conference is organised by the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police and the Ministry of Interior, under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Abu Dhabi, Crown Prince Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces.

In [the] future, there won’t be just one or two bridges between Malaysia and Singapore. There will be lots.
Abdullah Badawi, Building bridges with Singapore, The Edge Malaysia, 11 September 2006.
Looking forward to excellent and progressive Malaysia-Singapore relations under this present regime.
Unlike the xenophobic Mahathir's.

TDM should be allowed to air his opinion at the meeting. What is badawi scared of - that the truth will be exposed to all & sundry? If badawi was indeed playing money politics, he must be exposed!!!

Folks
Three cheers for Dr M.
What he is exposing now has been whispered in mamak stalls and chaykeow stalls for years.
It takes someone from the INSIDE in the corridors of powers in Malaysia to expose the hanky panky of UMNO.
Some of you may have negative views of Dr M's 21 years.
That is history as far as I am concerned and Malaysians should be concerned about NOW and the FUTURE.
For us to harp on the past, leads us to no where especially the dirty politics of UMNO and the UMNO Youth led by the upstart son in law and the keris wielding UMNO Youth Chief.
The chicken has come home to roost on Pak Lah. He had wasted the landslide victory almost ALL Malaysians gave him in the last election clean up the cobwebs in UMNO and the Govt machinery. No Pak Lah did not, instead allowed his SON IN LAW to roam in the political sphere of the country and using the country as his playing field just because he has the ears of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Malaysia is entering into a new frontier of local politics and the way it is going now, I like it. Thanks to the Old Man and Anwar, although Anwar is still trying to hedge his bets. Anwear should now make a stand instead of trying to be equivocal ... that is not good politics in the current atmosphere in the country.

Still do Frank and still fresh too. It's the same system only different driver. Former driver is not asking to change the system here. Current driver like-wise continue his legacy of driving down joe rakyat. BN cannot evolve for the better anymore.

I am rather sad that I have to bew somewhat glad that self-proclaimed "big-mouth" Dr M is pushing for Pak Lah to answer very rather disturbing questions. Especially those related to Kamal-Scomi and Khairy.
I can give Pak Lah a lot of the benefit of the doubt where many other questions (to which he had chosen to remain silent) are concerned, but where his own family is concerned, he must be seen to be clean, and should have come out with detailed and accurate replies. If his own family members were wrong, he should have taken action promptly and openly.
But that being said, Dr M must be reminded that he himself denied bailouts of his own family. MISC?
And as someone who denied that he had anything to do with Ops Lalang and the 1988 judicial sacking, I wonder whether he has a leg to stand on when he accused Pak Lah of being a liar.
One last thought. In politics, all manner of twisted dirty tricks can be expected. So if I a politician competing for a place in a certain branch delegates election, and I wanted to be able to hurl accusations of money-politics at my opponent, would I consider getting some dirty-tricks fellas together, preparing a big stack of envelopes , each with a slip of paper with certain numbers in it plus RM200, and arranging for it to be given to the delegates? Can anyone be sure who actually did the bribing if such bribery took place?
To take this thought further, what if I had a relative who was also contesting in the same delegates election, can I prepare the actual slips with his number included while doctoring one extra slip without his number on it to show as 'evidence' at a Press Conference?
Or I can even take a small risk by actually preparing a few slips (to be handed out with bribes) which actually did not have his number on it and ensure that these bribes reach selected people at the branch polls to increase my 'credibility' when I produce my doctored slip?
Figments of my imagination?

For the past twenty two years, the old fox had sunk the country to a real bottom. It could not be anything worse for Pak Lah who perhaps has the advantage to turn the situation up. Pak Lah’s foreign policy perhaps is more positive rather than that of the arrogant old fox who actually was a lousy manager for the country.
Anyway, for the UMNO politics, the herbal ingredient is still the same, only the amount of water is changed. The old fox has to eat back his humble pie for the system he had created; for sure his ego is badly slashed.

Jeff, allow me to put the following onto your weblog. I'm trying to be short as possible to convey the points, to put things in perpective for year 1988.
Taking advantage over the stunned Team A, Team B actually submitted applcation for a new UMNO immediately after the UMNO deregistration. Team A was only able to put in their application days (some say 3 days) after Team B.
----
Analisa Politik Semasa Sekitar Pendukung Kepimpinan Pak Lah (atau Kenapa Sambutan Dingin Terhadap Cadangan Tun Salleh Abbas)
...

I am not so sure about the analysis as posted by Ilmran questioneing the integrity of the judges vis-a-vis the play by Radzi.
From my recollection, the deregistration of UMNO was ordered by the late Harun Hashim, as UMNO had illegal branches registered in it's AGM. The case went to appeal to the highest level.
Tun Salleh then ordered 9 out of 10 Federal Court Judges (Supreme Court now) to sit on the panel (not 10 as the panel had to have an odd number) as he did not to be seen to be influencing the case by choosing judges as it decided the fate of the UMNO President and by extension, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. This, in light of the attacks by the Executive on the judiciary at the time. I thought this showed integrity on the part of Salleh Abas and the Malaysian judiciary, and also exposed the fear of Mahathir as his faction had been the one fingered in the inclusion of the illegal branches in UMNO.
It seemed Mahathir preempted this by sacking Salleh Abas in that shameful episode. Pls read May Day for Justice written by him for the full story, as he was also gagged by the government controlled press then.
The ROS also played its shameful part by registering UMNO Baru under the control of Mahathir instead of an earlier application by Ku Li. If that is integrity, then I do not know what shameful means !

mack,
"I am not so sure about the analysis as posted by Ilmran ..."
Me too. It's good that we can compare notes. :-)
I'm not pointing out on the judiciary part, but the article focuses more on the role of Radzi during those years. I have no recollection of the year, but talks in the grapevine before this articles was written resonates that Radzi is involved.
Oh yeah... I did not write that article :-)

Now where was Dr M “when” the results were announced? All reports indicated he left early at 2.00pm and the official verdict was out only at 5.08pm.

Frank is right - we have to look and work towards the future.
You have to hand it to TDM, he's is relentless when he puts his weight behind something. This time around, the something (AP-Scomi-KJ etc etc) is something we should all care about. We're lucky that TDM is still around to lend his booming voice to what should be our concerns too. What should be important to us is the message, and it's great that TDM happens to be the messenger.
I wonder if these concerns were to (God forbid) outlive the voice, whether there would be other voices that are just as loud to continue (I'm sure Screenshots will be one such voice), or whether everyone would just go back into our own little coccoons and hope that things get better.
As a Malaysian who's still hoping to return to Malaysia, what TDM is doing is giving me a glimmer of hope.

After creating so much problems to PM, to UMNO Youth and more importantly to we, ordinary Malaysian, it is time for KJ to leave Malaysian Politics for the good of everyone (KJ himself included).
Anyway, KJ is till young and can come back if he wants (or rather still being wanted) at later time.
KJ, you are such a bright young man and we believe you know what is best and the most honourable thing to do "atas name agama, bangsa dan negara"!
KJ, you see we still trust your good judgment after all these years and after all the "rather ugly racial tones".

I am only sad that Dr.M has to suffer the knowledge on the why(s) he lost. Now he is effectively one of us, the compatriots. Those who either hate or love him, should now focus on the performance of the current administration for the sake of this country. Don't let emotion cloud our judgement on what rights and wrongs. Just let Dr.M speaks out our whispering.

anak malaysia..
you are wrong about KJ..If he leave now, he will never be able to come back. Remember he got into UMNO you by the backdoor..that is becos he is SIL..and nobody wanted to challenge him.
With FIL as PM..KJ has to max available opportunities to "market" himself. If he doesn't make it up the UMNO ladder when FIL is gone, he is a dead duck. And moreover does anyone here believes Hisham and Najib is comfortable with him. At the slightest chance, he will be sidelined.
