Big Brother is watching
I had an air mail, on which the envelope clearly indicates it's from Vaidurya Media House. The Singapore-based publisher of a Buddhism magazine had solicited for my pictures on Reverend Dhammananda's funeral to be used in their November edition.

Big Brother at Abdullah's Internal Security Ministry decided to take a peep on Friday and got it released to me on Monday.

At least you now know that the Big Bros are interested in your mail, blog, trashcan, ADSL connection. Maybe that's why you have frequent disconnection and issues - they tap it up at the exchange. I sell network packet capture devices, if tmnet or the Govt ever comes up to us and buy one, I'll let you know first :p

i suppose what was done is within the law. However, u can always sue the govt. for invading ur privacy. that is provided u have got nothing to hide.

i think the first two comments above is the dumbest comments one can ever give.
1. the custom has the right to open any parcel to check. for security measure. to check if illegal items or untaxed items are being sent.
2. it's the protocol. definitely not because the parcel is meant for jeff, that's why they open and check.
3. and son, nope. you cannot sue them for invading your privacy. it's the protocol. P-R-O-T-O-C-O-L. they have the rights to open and check any parcels that are being sent in or out.

That's normal. Any printed matter or media (such as DVDs) will be opened for inspection. I used to order SX18-rated movies and they were always confiscated (no one bothered to tell me).

I used to order those free reports from Gartner - the kind on IT architecture strategy bla bla bla. Anyway, these reports, in the form of booklets, are free, and you can order multiple copies up to 5 or 8, if I'm not mistaken. In at least 2 instances, I received my package, with envelope all torn and crudely taped up, and only 2 or 3 copies were left (there's a note that states how many copies were actually shipped from Gartner, and each case, I was shipped the maximum).
Till now, I wonder what was the reason to 'confiscate' the extra copies.

Just too bad your mail got inspected. At least there was a message indicating who did it. and you got your mail. If it was a parcel with some presents in it, the chances that it will reach the intended receipients is 50/50.

I think most of you missed the point of Jeff's blog...
The package was opened by the Internal Security Ministry (KKDN) & not the normal package that normally only open by Custom!

This is a pretty common procedure, I'm not sure how legal it is, but that KKDN sticker is most probably a generic sticker for custom checks.

I have received packages from Singapore with that KKDN sticker on them many times. I thought it is very common practice....
