Internet control and politicians... ( 1 )

Via The Star frontpage lead:
The Prime Minister has issued a warning – those who spread untruths and slander on the Internet will face the law.
If information in blogs, websites and online portals were incorrect, bordered on slander, caused disturbance or compelled the public to lose faith in the nation’s economic policies, their authors would be detained for investigation, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. [...]
Abdullah also said that those who sent out such information via short message system (SMS) would also be held accountable.
Read theSun editorial that asks the authority to "control the hot air over media control".

My uncle, Keng Yaik said no censorship, but the plumbum repairman, Zam said, yes despite the jurisdiction is no under his. Then, the sleeping PM warned that bloggers could be charged! Is there a communication between all of them??
Put this way, Mr PM, you can't stop a bloggers from blogging. We all know blogger's news is not 100% accurate, but the problem is your UMNO boys keeps screwing themselves up and thus, creating problems to the nation!

bloggers will not go away..it is here to stay..but for a start..dear PM...why not ask the mainstream to publish the whole truth and not some sanitized version. Or biased version.
We know of Mad animals / sexist wakil rakyats and animal like behaviour of some of our MP on internet news. ON the flip side..it will do you good.if these jokers are not re elected..and save you the problem of reprimanding them for the atrocious behaviour
Apparently PM don't understand why a lot of people go for alternative news. Most read the daily papers for business and sports news. The other news have a credibility problems.

William, I think our leaders are still in the early stages of using Microsoft Outlook. They haven't come to the part about "cc'ing" e-mails yet, so they can't keep others in the loop yet :)
Feel free to point out the relevant Microsoft Outlook Help index to speed up their lessons.

Blogs are blogs, the only problem is the mainstream media is NOT dependable on its openess in reporting.

Quote, "or compelled the public to lose faith in the nation’s economic policies,".
OMG, is this written by his pen man or himself? Nobody can make the public/investor to loose faith unless the policies maker screw up.
If Pak Lah government failed to implement transparency policies, he only can blame HIMSELF for making investor wary and cause uncertainty among public.
Tun M has making the same grave mistake and drag the country economy behind 5-10 years whenever he play the "medium control" card.
When looking at Thailand, we should take note about "political stability" in the eye of investor. It seems investor prefer to take risk in a political system with controlled turbulance than a system with uncertain policies.

I m not happy with this curb to our freedom of speech. Come on, we don't live in the age where everybody is illiterate anymore. People know how to think and they can think on their own.

Aiyoo..all this stuff..if the media ./blogs are spreading untruth, then it will be like UFO news...will be forgotten or bypassed..
Why are they so afraid ..?is it because they are whole truth which they don't want to be caught red handed. The more u supress a blogger..the more bloggers will return . Return of the Bloggers.
Just like MP3 downloading......

If only the PM would stop at "If information in blogs, websites and online portals were incorrect, bordered on slander", I would have welcome his call.
Too bad it didn't.

Just a quick question...is calling the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage a "misinformed nut" for not knowing that the Pussycat Dolls wore skimpy clothes during their performance here recently considered 'untruthful and slanderous' or 'public opinion'?
Is calling the MOI a wacko for calling us not open minded enough to see parliamentary proceedings considered 'slanderous' or just telling him to actually listen to people...
Fact is, the government just doesn't like people talking bad about them, especially when they do something bordering idiocy, stupidity, downright corrupt, you know, everyday things that they do....

Then again, I will never support any state government intervention in any libel/slander case.
Why can't the PM realise that you only need the truth to defend and silence the untruths?

If the government wants to persecute bloggers and others who create rumours or slanderings, then the game must be played fair.
The goverment's mouthpieces must be able to get persecuted if they are incorrect too.
This government is too simplistic in coming up with solutions. Most are geared for the short term.
If there are slanderous information, then give the rakyat the correct information.
Got problem--->>>persecute, jail, threat.
Are there no other way to really solve things?
Everytime we have a problem then, we have to find the scapegoat. This time its the net, next time?
Hurling threats to people...

Not all slanders are 'slanders' or untrue. Cheaters, fraudsters, cunning foxes are smarter nowadays. They don't leave traces of evidences. When bloggers got cheated and not able to produce evidences to sue them, best way is to shame them by spreading cheaters' behaviors online and let everyone aware and more careful.

you can't stop blogger from blogging.
if you wanna do that, start stopping Malaysian from online.
So sad that at this age, we are doing a lot of things to filter the information...which, in the first place, in cyberworld, not really applicable.

Recent development has been extremely alarming.
Lately, We get a threat of detension on Internet blogging,
About last week, we got threat of May-13, for holding religious forum.
And further down, there has been threats and threats and threats.... (if U care to recall)
In a democratic society, the leaders are voted in by the people to rule for the people.
But here, our leaders seem to rule by threats and for their own benefits.
Sad indeed. I thought we are looking towards 2020, a transparent and accountable society.
Uh ! my beloved Malaysia, do U know where U are going !
