e-Government Summit
South Asia is aslightly ahead of us in e-Government, at least they are talking about it.
The South Asia e-Government Summit will be held in New Delhi, October 26-28, 2006. Theme: Government@24/7 – Overcoming cultural and contextual challenges.
Target audiences include e-Government users, researchers and practitioners from academia, public sector, IT and Telecom Industry, e-Government policy makers, key officers from multilateral development agencies and professionals from South Asian countries as well as from Europe , USA amd Middle East.
They don't even look at us.
Comments
In the heydays, even South Korea looked to us for tips on how to e-governize. We seem to have come full circle ..but to oblivion.
You can't do e-government without clear-cut transparency and it is transparency which will foster accountability and it is accountability which will reduce corruption and abuse of power.
One would think Badawi's administration would have taken this up quickly, seeing how it would sync with what he had promised, what more build higher usage of technology and simplify/quicken processes that affect the rakyat.
What gives why not?

When doing e-government, the system study will reveal lots of redundancy and change the way of government works. Just imagine a nationwide system auditing on work efficiency and paperworks necessity.
With everything in place, those officer can't no longer hide evident from pile of absurd, confusing paperworks. Since paperworks can be trashed/destroyed(e.g. Enron), computer data is unforgivable if the proper backup procedure is in place.
