ZAM warns of Operasi Lalang & May 13
UPDATED VERSION: ZAM has qualified his press statement by saying more... about the "one or two mainstream papers" he identified as have been abusing press freedom by raising sensitive issues on religion and race. Excerpts:
"The government has identified one or two mainstream newspapers which have been abusing the freedom (of the press) to the extent that other newspaper editors have the impression that these newspapers are given special privileges," he told a press conference at his ministry Friday.
Zainuddin said the government had never given any newspapers special privilege and freedom and was always fair to all newspapers.
"If there are newspapers which claim they get special privileges from any quarters and want to challenge the government on this, then they should be prepared to face the consequences," he added.
theSun, an English paper, has decided to publish the Bahasa Malaysia version of a press statement by MOI Zainuddin Maidin (ZAM) at 18:12hr today. Excerpts:
I hope you guys sit up and take note seriously. Is this a ZAM's personal manoeuvre? Is this a Cabinet directive? Which are the newspapers implicated that ZAM didn't identify openly? Is theSun's July 27 editorial, which came hot on the heel of the Mass Media Conference 2006, a precursor to more to come?
Is Malaysia under siege? What's looming on the horizon?

The only reliable way to censore the internet is to disconnect the whole Malaysian grid from the outside world. Unless they are prepare to do that, they're always ways to go around whatever they put up.

I like it when he says:
Its like saying: "Dude, you don't have to worry while I'm holding this gun on your head. Unless of course you did something wrong"
Oxymoron?

ZAM better watch out his big mouth. Bringing up those pass history does no good to the country economy. Bare in mind that Pak Lah is betting on the 9MP to rejuvenate the economy and shadowing some of Tun M legacy.
If nobody did damage control over ZAM speech, it might chase away new investment and reinvestments. THAT is bad for country.

As a reminder, KLSE is hit hard in 1987(year of operasi lalang). The other hit is during 1997 finanncial.
All happens to be darkest ages information for the country. And the economy recovery appear to be slower than all neighbourhood country after the crash.
Will Pak Lah immitate Tun M mistake?

As they say, "when elephants fight, the grass get trampled". For 'grass', read the stock market, the nonMalays, press freedom, religous tolerance, and business confidence.

The previous PM, I thought was very bad at judging characters. Now looks like we are having similar problem with present PM. Please don't allow these jokers to hijack the nation. Sack them before its too late.
