Who is he talking about?

MOI Zainuddin Maidin (ZAM) was quoted in Utusan Malaysia as saying:

Besides IHT's David Brooks (Can fever cure the jihadi?) that ZAM spotted, who else are this "small group of journalists in certain media (organisations)"? Who are these "foreign elements" making use of the said journalists? If such double-talk of connecting "media freedom and openness introduced by Abdullah" to "foreign elements" is to proliferate, the proposed Malaysian Press Council is doomed, and witch-hunting will begin.

If ZAM is a patriot he postures to be, then he should talk straight, and name names and nab them instead of instilling fear and arousing suspicion among journalists good and bad.

You can't have our editors saying 'Good night and good luck' to each other at offstone everyday.

Awww, c'mon, Jeff. They are talking about you. and Aisehman, and Rockybru. And A Kadir Jasin. And Malaysiakini. The list goes on.

Too bad the mainstream media lost the plot, and took the low ground instead. As Kit Leee once said, "NST (honesty!) is the best policy". Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

I dont think ZAM is referring to Jeff or any bloggers in particular.

note the word "akbar"..."Kebebasan dan keterbukaan akhbar"..

so, it should be for some "wartawan media" working for the papers, not the bloggers.

But then sometimes or most times, these people dont even know what they are saying.

"...telah disalah guna oleh segelintir wartawan media tertentu yang menjadi alat kepada anasir luar."

==========================

I think Zam is referring to Kali & gang.

No love lost between the two. Kali referred to Zam as 'dubuk tua" in one of his Sunday Columns.

ZAM is talking about the alternative media. He knows that the mainstream media apes government policy and they only feed "feel-good" nonsense to the unsuspecting public. Zam is after you, Jeff, and he is after Aisehman and the rest of the rabble-rousers.

wartawan media = media reporters, should not include bloggers, which is actually doing it at their own time and money, and who have no specific circulation influences.

anasir luar = outside elements, maybe referring to external interference such as Singapore agents or Zionist agents...

therefore...the conclusion is Kali, Brendan and the 22-q guy...

I suppose anytime the media begins to tackle tough issues and reflect the diversity of opinions and views in Malaysia they will automatically be branded under the influence of foreign agents. Sigh!!

holiday:

I'm with you on tis one.
But who's ZAM but of similar ilk, serving his and cronies' intetrests but the 4th Estate's! So who's he to copmplain?

Media Council? That's going to be another nail to 4th Esate's coffin if it's not already inserted 1/2half into the burial grounds by media experts from old worlde melaka == do they still call them Yang Arif Bendahura-hara?

Yet another INTERESTING episode.

Since ZAM failed to hint anyone in his talk, it means ZAM having problem guessing the PM speech. All this is coherent the recent incidents of "umno minister speak up" sandiwara. What ZAM doing is just another act of "testing the water".

Fastern your seabelt and watch the following minister take turn :
Minister of Science, Technology & Innovations, Minister of Rural & Regional Development, minister of Entrepreneur & Cooperative Development, minister of Arts, Culture & Heritage, minister of Tourism, minister of Women, Family & Community Development.

desiderata,

I am not too sure how this is going to turn about as those people that possibly ZAM mentions are closely linked to the powers that be at the 4th Floor.

It sounds more like spitting into the wind.

Maybe moo_t is right, ZAM is testing the water and "siapa makan cili, dia terasa pedas"

Was at Kementerian Keselamatan Dalam Negeri media conference in Putrajaya. Zam lambasted NST and BH but did not mention name. In short, he said NST and BH are foreign tools. Showed NST and BH cuttings to the audience.

just a matter of time b4 the govt clamps down on bloggers. they are now saying blogging is BS whilst local dailies gv a clearer and more honest reporting. Meaning to say, u guys are BS-ters. They r feeling the heat now. They know they r losing ground. If this cancer is not taken care of now, the next GE they will be hardly hit. So dont be surprised they will conjure up some problems/scandals/etc and find excuses to shut u guys up for good.

holiday -- you want me to paint pic until the intestines show, isit?

ZAM owes ex-PM Mahathir one, also old school thinking on what Information ministry is -- mainly govt propaganda. Because some power-brokers at NST don't give a damn to this Menteri propaganda-ganda wang anda, he's talking in riddles-lah. When the next Cabinet reshuiffle comes, Pak Lah may just ask him to rejoin olde Melaka feudaldom and its "ang Arif Bendahura-hara" media.

Since PM speech does little pointing on bloggers, it maybe a hint to KM stop fooling around to ditch blogger over journalism.

When KM colleages is cleaning up MAS and Proton, KM yet to show any effort "exposing" cost overrun issue inside NSTP.

Do such thing as 'penjajahan media' even exist?

Sometimes the notion of freedom might have been used too loosely. But freedom in mass media (news reporting for that matter) can never be too much at a time.

Media can be bias, or even owned by the govt. But no one is 'jajahing' anyone, and everyone should be able to write whatever they want. Because for every NYST, there's a jeffooi.com somewhere else.

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
