Big money, but where's the keyword?

How nice if The NST could help push PM Abdullah's agenda by running a different headline with an accent for simple keywords like 'OPEN TENDER'?

Look, those nice little words are sorely missing in today's papers!

Among the first to react to the RM15 billion carrots is Malay Contractors Association of Malaysia president Roslan Awang Chik, who was seen parking himself at the Parliament lobby today.

He, however, shared all the good thoughts one could possibly think of. For example, he urged the government not to simultaneously open tenders for all the 880 trinkets projects under the 9MP that cost RM15 billion in order to prevent prices of building materials from rising.

He also said the 880 projects should be tendered out gradually so as to prevent suppliers from raising prices to maximise profits.

Good news

The good news is that Works Minister S. Samy Vellu has offered himself to stay near the cookie jar and to personally monitor the implementation of all infrastructure projects to ensure their success. Via Bernama:

"I will personally monitor the implementation through the ministry-level Special Committee on Monitoring of 9MP Infrastructure Projects chaired by me," he said in a statement issued here.

The bad news is, all tender papers for the 880 projects will only be available in three months' time.

Samy Vellu minding the cookie jar?

How well did he mind the MRR II jar?

How well did he mind the other similar jars?

You're right Jeff. Hardly can see any keywords that assure us that this big bag of goodies will be safely delivered to the right people who will be doing the right stuff. Big question on everybody's mind seems to be: Will the same old guys with that "Open Sesame" mentality be there waiting and drooling? Will some of the buildings and structures still collapse or stall before completion? Will the water be sucked dry by the drains or pipelines before they reach the destinations?

Open Tender?

They are many ways of fraud tender system can be done. IF no proper tender process control in placed. Even auditor also no way to check.
DOnt simply get cheated by open tender.

open tender in msia is a joke la. i used to submit tenders for hospital supplies for the past 5-10yrs and we all know very well that even open tenders can be manipulated. first of all, if u submit early there is always leakage of info from those ppl within. and not surprisingly we do get calls from them asking for favors in return of info. that's why many ppl chosed to submit at the very last minute. if this doesnt work for open tender then the last resort is to cancel the tender and gv various reasons and with that u hv already gotten info from the various parties and can study thoroughly their submission. When the new tender reopens "you" have more or less the info you needed if you get inside help. Open tender is just a gimmick to me. See who gets the pie lo. same old same old.

I am all for the implementation of these projects even with the usual 'topped up' prices which is the usual practice but at least we get the right projects going which beenefits the rakyat without burdening them with more money to 'rescue' abandoned and sub standard end results !
Or am I dreaming again !.......hopefully semuanya akan OK !

I hope to remiond all theUMNOputras gaping for some of this pie to fall into their plate..that the desrve it if they see it not falling into thei9r plates because they are not close enough to the powers that be. After all 880 projects can only benefit less than half the number...

Anek Samy Vellu pula jaga 'cookie jar' - tak cukup makan ye! How can the scoundrel gangster Samy
Vellu be so greedy? The man who has made Indians non-entities in Malaysia has now embarked on a master plan to siphon out more money from the khazana of the Govt. coffers. He sure is a greedy man, but why blame him when the Indians still elect him again & again &…
When will the Malaysian Indians learn their lesson? NEVER EVER as long as the Sun rises in the East!

We probably lost more money to forex trading than money allocated under 9 MP. We financed foreigners such as Mussadeq to the tune fo RM300million excluding facilities. we gave away a few hundred million to italians. This government trust foreigners, who eventually screwed us more than citizens of this country, who paid taxes. Now I hear we will spend close to half a bilion in England to build a sports centre. The government has abandoned us. So why are they so fussy when it come to foreign ownership of Malaysian companies.

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
