Spray attack: Rent-a-Soldier?
The Defence Ministry, which oversees the army, should look into this. Tell us the SOP.
Via Malaysiakini:
Seven militarymen were among 27 witnesses questioned by the police in connection with yesterday’s spray attack outside an airport in Kelatan which affected former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“The seven soldiers were hired by one of the organisers as his (Mahathir’s) personal bodyguards,” said Kelantan police chief SAC I Zulkifli Abdullah
Speaking at press conference in the Kelantan police headquarters in Kota Bharu today, Zulkifli revealed that a 57-year old ‘Datuk’ has been arrested to assist investigations at 10pm in Pasir Tumbuh last night, about 11 hours after the incident and is expected to be remanded soon. Zulkifli declined to name the individual.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 328 under the Penal Code for causing hurt through use of poison with the intention of committing an offence, which carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years and fine.

Alamak. Are soldiers allowed to moonlight as 'personal bodyguards'?
I hope they were not in uniform! Otherwise, there will also be the question of them being under the command of some civilians while they were uniformed soldiers.
And were they carrying any military equipment? That would be another big question if they were.

Mahathir should be able to tell if this Datuk was scheduled to escort him from the airport. Somehow the claim that he was a supporter and that the quarrel with Ibrahim Ali over whose car Mahathir should ride in sounds rather flimsy and taken out of some cheap Tamil or Malay movie.
A more credible line would be that the Datuk was there to sabotage and to derail the Mahathir movement. If the spin that it was a quarrel between two Mahathir supporters was allowed to stick obviously it would tarnish the Mahathir movement. But if that spin fails, then I am afraid the Badawi and/or Khairy boys would have a lot to answer.
On the other hand looking at Khairy's latest shenanigans and monkey like behaviour, a more believable line might be that Khairy might be orchestrating all this to discredit his own father-in-law. If indeed the rumours that Khairy's marriage is on the rocks and some unkind words have been said, he might know that he only has a very short window of opportunity to misuse institutions and newspapers to his whims. And then he might be snuffed out. Hey, I am begining to sound like Rajaj Petra here with all these posturings!....Better stop!

YOu are getting close the truth of the matter.
There are too many black hands in this spraying of TDM.
I have this uneasy feeling this is orchestrated by some Umno Youth apparatchiks.
The spraying of TDM is to follow the Malay saying is this " Kami nak Ajar dia sekali'. And what better place to do it in PAS stronghold, and not in some UMNO state whether the MP has to answer for it.
Our Malay community should be embarrassed by the whole incident, and knowing that this is done by members of the Malay community to a Malaysian leader, a PM for 22 years and, on balance, had done more good for the country. I would feel really insulted as a Malay by this atrocious and unforgiveable act.
UMNO, supposedly to represent the good side of the Malay race, must come out and condemn in the strongest terms this atrocity at TDM. Otherwise, UMNO is nothing more than a political hypocrite and does not deserve to wear the badge of representing the Malays in Malaysia.

I thought the culprit had been identified and arrested. Why are some of you still trying to debate whodunnit?

First of all..do you guys trust the police to do the investigation? And what if the person identified is a top dog in UMNO? Will the police be asked to close one eye.
I am not expecting much. In fact I expect this event will be hushed up, delay ..delay..delay..etc..not enough witness...blah blah... and forgotten like all the issues we have before us.
Good luck Malaysia
