MCMC on WiMax caper
The interim crisis management model looks like this:
Taking into consideration the Minister’s concerns, MCMC will defer the evaluation of the submissions made by the applicants and the announcement of the result, which had been originally targeted for 31 October 2006.Once the concerns are addressed, MCMC will proceed with the evaluation, in which clarifications from the applicants may be sought, if necessary.
Further announcement on this matter will be advised to the applicants in due course.

By the way, MCMC has a new Org Chart w.e.f. July 2006. Looks like Mohd Aris Bernawi is the one likely to bear the WiMax headache.
Only 3 potential winners
Those seen having submitted the tender papers yesterday were NasionComm Holdings, DiGi, RedTone International, Jaring, MiTV, Celcom Timur and AsiaSpace. It is believed that several other parties, including the Big Boys, have also put in their tender.
However, there could only be three potential winners in the tender process.
Under the terms and conditions contained in the AIP dated May 16, 100 Mhz of the 2.3Ghz to 2.4Ghz spectrum are allocated into twenty 5Mhz blocks. Each successful bidder is expected to be allocated a group of six blocks, taking up 90% of the assigned spectrum.
Contrary to media reports, no licences will be given out as all applicants (bidders) must fulfil the pre-requisite of
already owning the NFP and NSP licences under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Comments
it will be interesting to note if DIGI will win the bidding the bidding this time around... lets see if they will give the same lame excuses like previous situation

I wonder whether this has something to do somehow with the news that was announced in May 2006 that Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) had signed an Agreement with US-based Air Broadband to layout WiMAX infrastructure to cover Cyberjaya. The way the announcement was reported it appears the Deputy Minister Datuk Shaziman was officiating at the signing ceremony.
One wonders why MDeC is becoming involved in building broadband access infrastructure, when they are supposed to be a facilitator. Moreover the question also arises as to what is the spectrum that is going to be used for this WiMAX infrastructure, and who is going to be the operator, as one does still need to have a licence issued by MCMC.

Will WiMax threaten Streamyx? If it will, it could be the reason for the withdrawal of the tender.
