MAS de la Force

DULU...

Former MAS chief executiveTajudin Ramli claimed he was forced by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin to buy shares in MAS to help Bank Negara recover from foreign exchange losses in 1994 inflicted by Top Cat. (See theSun, July 6, 2006)

KINI...

Current MAS chief executive Idris Jala said the Business Turnaround Plan he announced on February 28 did not have the concept of trunk and non-trunk, but this was the decision of the Government to restructure the aviation sector using the concept of trunk and non-trunk, and MAS was forced to 'respect the Government's decision and abide by the Government's decision' which identified the 19 routes as trunk whereas AirAsia can fly to all the routes. "By the way. It was not in our plan," emphasised Idris. (See NST-Business Times, July 6, 2006)

after what tun dr mahathir and tun daim engineered, we can can only marvel at the sheer length of wits it took to save bank negara.

saying that tun dr mahathir and tun daim *forced* tajuddin, is a bit *forced* by the mainstream media, does not it?

The problem in this country is not the lack of entrepreneurs...It is the interference of govt in every known sector of the business...control bus permt,s control taxi permits..control every damn thing...which give rise to corruption..etc to get permits etc.

as long as MAS is "forced" to do certain routes...forced to do this and that..Idris Jala is dead duck. Short term he will turn company around..long term...will be same shit all over again.

Let all business compete..let bus companies compete,,,issue as many permits anybody wants..If business is no good..or without sound business plans it will sure fails...and leave the real businessmen to do their work.

Maybe this is one reason investors are shying from Malaysia. Too many "regulations"

Cool!

i'm relieved that World Cup is not yet over!

We will see GREAT PASSING SKILL, at least for the next few weeks.

Yawn.... it take 2 to clap.

And to Idris case, omgbbq, nobody say you CANNOT cut the cost to convert the "forced trunk" to no-frail route.

As much as I enjoyed football, I enjoyed chess game as well. The chess master had sacrificed the piece that Tajudin's holding. Don't worry-la Idris, your turn will come.

I don't pretend that I know much about this saga, but isn't that from theSun that MAS has been losing money since the 80s? And do we see it making money almost 3 decades later?

Is this the start of a major mudslinging fest?

Well Dr M was asking for it - let's see what has he got to say now...

"One on one I'll play my game tonight...."

moot, the G has forced a "floor" fare pricing on MAS. Which is why it has to cancel its Supersaver, student and senior citizen fares. So, no, MAS is NOT allowed to go into the discounted LCC mode.

Just beginning to wonder who actually owns AA. "makes no sence" deals often makes a lot of sense, once the hidden background deals becomes known, just like the Tajuddin/MAS deal.
