Dr Mahathir & 'Roti Benggali'

Remember the 'Roti Benggali' story that Lim Kit Siang talked about? Via Utusan Malaysia, June 29:

Sekarang saya nak jual roti benggali,” ujarnya.

Well, it's for real now.

Dr Mahathir's bakery and bistro -- The Loaf -- will be officially launched in Langkawi this weekend. Official launch is over a Saturday evening cocktail, and press launch and Breakfast with Dr M will be the next morning.

Dr Mahathir is the chairman and major shareholder of the company behind "The Loaf". It's also a brainchild of K.Suzuki, the president of The Japanese Chamber of Trade and Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM).

Dr Mahathir, I was told, had wanted to leverage the presence of "The Loaf" to enhance the image of Langkawi, and to promote Langkawi among foreign tourists as a world class destination in Asia.

The Loaf's technique, recipe and supporting technology elements are adopted from Japan where quality and taste of bread ranks among the best in the world.

For those who are in Langkawi right now, check it out:

After opening first outlet, what next? Branch outlet at Petronas Twin Towers / Suria KLCC?

I'm sure he can get a shopfront there easily :)

this looks good. u think a I can get a franchise form them ah? Or is it reserved just for Ketuanans?

I dont get it....arent all these people 'billionaires' already?

How much $$ can u really make from stuff like this...and even if you do......does it make a difference to your pocket?

It's like Bill Gates opening a chain of cake shops.....

Maybe i am wrong...i dont know...after all..im a small fish in the ocean.

jigsawpuzzle, you sure you don't get it?

by the way, i would suggest him to start the laundry business instead of bakery?

whatsoever, the laundry is in the pipeline according to reports from langkawi.
And what is also making people uncomfortable there is that 'the loaf' will be serving alchohol....tut tut

In the United States, "bread" can sometimes refere to money. You loafers can't even figure that out.

Not much money can be made, but maybe it's a front to launder the bread, hahaha.

Roti Boy...you have found your MATCH :)

In this duty free island (check on currency for location), 1 crate of Coca-cola is selling at HK$60, and the similar crate of locally imported (border crossing) beers only selling at HK$55.

Beers is not considered as liquor in this little duty free island, but hard alcoholic drinks are taxed very hard like Malaysia too.

Langkawi is meant for International Tourists, is to bring in foreign currencies, 1 roti canai sold for RM5 inconjunction with D'Lima airshow and exhibitions.

For Local Malaysians, please refrains from making the crowds there, the place for foreigners. Go take your RM0.50 roti canai at warong please.

Similarily thus, The Loaf meant for our holiday makers and foreign visitors, we shold satisfy their needs and provide it. And they are not Muslimin, please. But if you are 5 star seekers, you are welcome, but please don't pay no star price and complaint.

So, What I want to tell you is Halloumi, these Islander is the same like the tiny red dot accidental state people, is businessminded. A businessminded person do things in businessway. If you are theoretical or ideologist, please have another options, is to the Rotiboy please.

I am not in any degree of Business Admins, but is the blood that runs inside me.

Dear All,

Last two weeks ago, I saw a new bakery outlet at Taman Connaught, Cheras. Sound just like "The Loaf".

I'm not sure if it was the same of the Roti Benggali's "The Loaf", but I saw it was really impressive, and just as descrived above (with the Japanese Style).

Located near to the Sedaya College (UCSI) Campus, at the same Shop Houses' row with the Maybank's new branch.

BaganSPU, sure we have to all be 'businessminded', but there isn't one great bakery in the world that sells liquor with a croissant. Its about understanding what you are GREAT at and sticking to that.
If its all about the money then just pop over the border and have a look at Phuket. Now they know hhow to cater for the tourists every wish.
