The Red C's... Cross, Crescent, Crystal

This is a changing world with more noisy, feuding parties joining the global village.

Red Cross has an optional third emblem, the Red Crystal.

Shall we have more peace to the world instead of a red sea of bloodshed?

Thanks for the lead.
It's so sad that religion is the root of so much division in the world today.

palmdoc, it is politics. Because religious are biggest polilitics in the world

If the Christians can have their cross, the Muslims their crescent, why can't the Jews have their Star of David instead of a neutral crystal ???

Even Iran under the Shah days could have their Persian Lion on the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement emblem.

Let me get something straight from what I can remember from my history books. The Red Cross is the first emblem of the the Society. Its an inverted Swiss Flag, which was a White Cross on a red background. The emblem was a form a respect to the founder, Sir Henry Dunant, a Swiss.

The Red Crescent came out because during one war (which I have totally forgotten), the warring parties took the red cross as a symbol of the knights templar, who waged the crusades. To appease a large population of the world, the red cross was introduced.

Although malaysia used the red crescent emblem, it has nothing to do with our state religion. Indonesia still uses the red cross emblem despite the fact they have the largest muslim population.

I am a committee in Penang Island Red Crescent Society. Something akin to a front line manager. If there are any constructive suggestions that you would like pose, I would like to hear it. I don't promise action (small fishes like me cannot do much) but it would be wonderful if I can get some feedback.

Despite all the evil in this world, there are always a few good men.

The Israeli crystal sign looks pretty good for target practice. Why does every sign have to be linked to some religion? Maybe it will be more practical for the Red Cross to permit its symbol to be denoted in any form/structure as long as it is in red color!

A dog, being man's best friend, would be a better symbol than all those other symbols. Maybe a red dog!!

I think the Red Crystal is a capital idea.

Though the first symbol, the Red Cross, was only intended to honour the founder, I can understand the apprehension some may have given that the cross is a widely known Christian symbol.

Similarly, the Red Crescent may make others feel uncomfortable.

So a symbol like a crystal, with no religious, ethnic or whatever ties which may be a source of contention is most apt for an organisation which exists for humanitarian reasons only.

Dog?
Cannot lah...not a 'neutral' animal. Some religions do not like this animal.

The best is just to have a red drop of blood.

The red crescent was adopted by the Ottoman empire in 1876 during the war with Russia. It was recognized in the 1929 Geneva Convention along with the red lion and sun of Persia.

I was a member of the Malaysian Red Cross Society until the racist Bugis PM Tun Razak changed it to Red Crescent Society. Indonesia today still uses the Red Cross symbol as the country is a secular one like Malaysia but Umno deems otherwise because it is halal to break promises made with infidels.

From JPost,

This is because the muslim countries prevent israel to join the Intl Rec Cross.

In Israel, the star of david was used to replace the crecent or cross.

Yes, you guys are right, this is down right religious politics.

Wow, what next? another religion might want to have the 'red moon'?

We already have the red moon. A crescent moon. :)

what about the red lotus...?

Or a red cow ? :)

I think the best solution would be the symbol of a Red Moron ! That should satisfy all parties.

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
