Sandiwara? Take the Teflon® Test... ( 5 )
Sakit punya kepala OR kepala punya sakit ni?
Shahrir Abdul Samad has a new script, titled: Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!
SCENE 7 Act 1:
He said everybody got it wrong, starting from Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang who had tabled the motion in dispute. He said Lim had invoked the wrong standing order when he moved the motion. Via Malaysiakini:
“Everybody was wrong - the opposition leader was wrong, the speaker was wrong, I was also wrong in supporting or (being) against the motion,” he said, adding that his resignation was therefore made on the wrong basis.
FORESHADOW, Teflon® certified:
Via Malaysiakini:
“I stated that I resigned and it was accepted. But my (BBC) colleagues said I shouldn’t have submitted the resignation letter to the whip because it is not the whip who appointed me, they have their point also,” he (Shahrir) said.
Chorus singers are standing by for the epilogue.
BN MPs want to vote according to conscience...
Conscience requires them to support Opposition's motions in Parliament,
if situation warrants it... ("We owe a duty to voters")
But the PM insists all BN MPs must toe the party line...
How ah? How ah?
Cemerlang, Gemilang, Terbilang...
How ah? How ah?
First World Mentality...
How ah? How ah?
The NST/Berita Harian story on Jasin has backfired. The DPM, and the PM who praised his deputy has done " the right thing", doesn't look good. Jasin is totally out of focus.
Sakit punya kepala OR kepala punya sakit ni?

i agree that since sharir was not appointed, the dpm is in no position to accept his resignation.
this is like watching a bunch of primary school kids playing ball(any type) in the padang and no one knows the rules, they just play along making things up and changing the rules as they go.
no wonder we can't win any negotiations with singapore....

Finally, the cock crows... Nothing is the truth of what is sworn when they become candidates and ultimately, what matters is power and position.
The saying always goes; never trust a politician for what they said; lies, lies, and more lies.

Everybody got it wrong? No...Jeff didn't. But only one got it right. the guy who asked to close one eye. obviously he knew all the rules in this country. AND, what nothing for a guy to support 'opposition motion'. No remarks!!!? Oklah...kesian the 10 non-muslims guys who submit the memo a few months ago. Obviously they also got it wrong.

Im curious, LKS seems to know the news & tables in the Parliment before Shahrir did. Shahrir was scheduled to ask the same thing.
Was it a coincidence or an insider?
Well, I agree that Shahrir should not tender his resignation letter to najib.
Now, what Im worried about is BN is drafting out guidelines (more like do it or get suspended) so that any motion by the opposition must be supported by the BN.
Dear Jeff.
this is the real fight we must pay attention. Freedom of voice must be excersised in the Parliment. Shahrir & Sothi will come & go with a price, but the real picture is freedom.

I KNEW IT! If a minister (or anyone in power) says he's resigning on principle, trust him to find a way back! I commented on this on the first or second sandiwara post! Now the slimy fella is worming his way back. If he had resigned on principle he should STAY resigned. It doesn't fall on technicalities like who should accept the resignation and who shouldn't. The principle is that every motion should be judged on merit, regardless tabled by opposition or government. THAT'S the principle, and if Shahrir tries to worm back in my opinion of Malaysian politicians sinks even lower.

Is it just me or do you all also notice an increasing trend in these circus acts in the past 1 to 2 years. I have been wondering for awhile now, has it always been this laughable or is it because of the increasing access to media/info such as these blogs.
Agreed that Shahrir shouldnt tender resignation to DPM if was not appointed. Likewise DPM shouldnt have accepted. Shahrir should have gone through the BBC due process (if there is one).
We have an inherent issue of "Godfather" like governance of the govt and corporates. There is a tendency to always get the "blessing" from the top and diminishing exercise of judgement at the bottom.
This is quite clearly an unintended side effect of policies such as ISA, overnight policy changes (with little deliberation) removal of power/access of those who "disobey".
I think a louder voice for opposition would be the first step. BN policy to disallow support for an opposition motion surprising. But more surprising is that BN MPs cant even openly have a mature debate about a potentially sensible motion raised by the opposition.

Datuk Shahrir should not retract his decision to quit the chairmanship. If it is a matter of principle, then whatever the correct procedure is, it shouldn't have made any difference because the principle remains the same. I feel so sad for the parliamentarians because law makers does not know where to draw the line between helping and coercion. Help your constituents by putting a good word by all means but don't try to coerce civil servants into violating the laws make by the law makers themselves! Link

Pretty soon the Teflon will get scraped away, and we'll see the outcome. What's the real material beneath. But then again, this appears to me like a historical event, the outcome of this will determine whether our parliament restores the respect to itself or lose it forever. Integrity Crisis reaching a climax. After this if the wrong decisions are made, we'll be wasting our time even going to the polls. After all this is only sandiwara... Nice game though. Referee one-sided, linesmen all sided, no goalie on one side. Captain resigns. Great game but no bets taken.

You come, you vote, you leave, you quit, you get called back, and then PM says it's final.
this sounds like some badly scripted episode of the "West Wing" or "Commander and Chief"

If Sharir resigned, then let him stayed resigned, no need to crawl and beg for his return. The real attention and spotlight should be turned to Jasin MP for asking the enforcer to close an eye. This is a big No No. This fish head is rotten, that is why even the Jasin MP can interfere in the enforcement work and get away scot free. Again a lot of time has been wasted in debating on what Sharir done is right or not and hardly on what Jasin MP did, which warrants sacking from his MP post.

I don't understand why there has not been any action against the Jasin MP? Shouldn't him be in the spotlight?
Reading the PM's statements in the papers today is just mind boggling. Since when is the party (BN) bigger than the government? Since when is political upperhand is more important than the implications of the little Napoleons mindset that the PM said that he so abhorred?

there was this joke heard a long time ago when Idi Amin was the president of Uganda. The dictator wanted to change the name of the country to reflect his name. He proposed that Uganda shall be called 'The Republic of Idi'.
Almost immediately, the countrymen stood up and advised him against it. And after hearing them out, dictator Idi Amin agreed and hence Uganda still exists today.
Smart countrymen of Uganda. If they had not, they would have been known internationally as 'Idiots'.
Is it the same here in Malaysia?
Another joke yet about President Thieu from Vietnam when he was in power. The joke went that he invited the editor of Bernama by the name of Mr Singh to aid him in running a newspaper.
After the discussions, President Thieu proposed that Vietnam's national newspaper shall be a fusion of his name, Bernama and Mr Singh. He aptly suggested 'ThieuNaSingh".
Mr Singh was taken aback and immediately advised President Thieu that it was a vulgar word. The dictator nodded and said he would think of another name.
He then thought of a fusion of his name and Bernama to come up with 'ThieuNama'.
Mr Singh fainted!
Are Malaysians still standing? Or have they fainted? Or will Malaysians continue standing to accept all these morons they elected? For sure, those who voted in these morons are citizens of 'The Republic of Idi' and the newspaper they read are 'ThieuNaSingh' and 'ThieuNama' disguised in other names.
Thanks to the internet, we are able to see through the 'Teflon'.

WIll anyone really take him seriously next time when he comes out with another winning tagline? I WILL, cos it is sure damn a good slogan. Hope he can bring me some ONG.

many people want to turn the spotlight back on to Said. but imnsho, the issue at hand is bigger than chicken little such as that. the problem we have is not integrity of individual MP's but a structural one.
perhaps now we understand why many MP's don't bother to show up for meetings in parliament - they only need to be there to rubber stamp the government's whims and wishes.
perhaps now we know it is all bs when candidates from other BN component parties (i.e. mca, mic, supp, sapp, pld, etc.) tell us that the only way to be heard and affect changes is from within BN. ha! memo-gate and one-eye-gate surely put that argument to rest.
i'm becoming convinced that the only way to advance integrity and transparency in the parliament is to increase opposition representation.

Isk,
Very good points. Parliamentarians are there to debate, convince and be convinced. There are of course some times where the vote has to go along party lines, that's what the whip is for. But to impose a blanket ban on voting for the opposition is just plain daft. Therefore, we should increase opposition numbers in Parliament.

Are you all naive or what?
It is a known fact since the formation of the Federation (1n 1963, NOT 1957 contrary to G propaganda), that the MOST important election in the Federation is NOT the General Election to Parliament, but the election to the leadership of UMNO.
Because the President and Deputy AUTOMATICALLY becomes the PM and DPM.
So of course UMNO and the election to UMNO leadership is MORE important than Parliament.
Duh...
Once you understand that, you will understand why certain decisions are made.
At the moment, The PM's ability to control his Party and people is MORE important than the integrity of Parliament.
It is called survival.
