NST & DAP

Both The NST and DAP are an unlikely alliance on a common cause. They both want Jasin MP Said bin Yusof penalised as hard as the law allows for interfering in the duties of our Customs & Excise department.

The rakyat have no problem with that. Go ahead and make our day.

But Said is a small fry. His company, Binyu Sof Enterprise, is probably so small that it's may not be a Sendirian Berhad that is likely to handle Khazanah and BinaFikir contracts.

DAP, on one hand hand, has the track record of gunning down for the Big Fish. I will try to look for the same for The NST.

Perhaps I should look up to some Umno people and start looking here and here. And may be here. There is no doubt, absolutely no doubt at all, that The NST investigative journalists, and their editors, are capable of a good expose on these.

But why do you use bazooka to gun down a small fry? Don't tell me Malaysians are so naive that gajah di depan tak nampak, kuman di seberang jelas kelihatan.

Well, if even the small fries cannot handle, how about big fries. Let see what happen..

Pak Lah

The rakyat is watching you closely if you walk to talk to curb the rampant corruption in Malaysia

Unfortunately, Said does not anticipate any action to be taken against him as the Umno Supreme Council has decided there is no case and the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (May 8, 2006) has rejected a motion to refer him to the parliamentary rights and privileges committee.

Will Pak Lah "close one eye" and let Said off scot-free or "Semuanya OK"?

this look to me like a daylight crime, right under the nose of the nation.

1st: admit he did it, but made it look like he's just helping some company
2nd: admit he is the sole proprietor

but there is no case against him. laugh all u want.

"...Perhaps I should look up to some Umno people and start looking here and here. And may be here. There is no doubt, absolutely no doubt at all, that The NST investigative journalists, and their editors, are capable of a good expose on these."

How could they, even if they wanted too, when their boss is one of the main players in ECM Libra.

Ayo yo, gila lu!! Periok nasi mesti jagalah.

I thought with Kalimullah there NST will be Badawi's man. But with NST going after this Binyu Sof guy are they not embarrassing the Badawi government more?

After all this Said Yusof guy is a moron implicating himself and almost suicidal in his daily updates of his transgressions. It would seem like on day one he tests the waters and then he gets every other idiot who is a BN MP in parliament as well as Badawi making statements and taking actions that will make them all look foolish if they were to now turn around to act on him. After all to do that they will have to agree with the motion made by LKS. And that they now cannot do. Indeed it would be wise for Said Yusuf to come out safely with all the confessions he has to make as he has proven without doubt how half past six and impotent the Badawi led government is.

I am actually begining to wonder if Said Yusf is working hand in golve with Mahathir to discredit Badawi....because that is what is happening the longer Yusuf is free to remain an unfettered MP. Furthermore, I have to wonder if LKS actually intended to have Said Yusuf censured in the first place. The ultimate outcome of this whole episode seems to arrive at the conclusion that Badawi is leading a government that is impotent and has completely lost the plot.

SBY will just a smack on the back of the hand and goes scot free.
BN cannot afford a by-election if charged and found guilty.
DAP wants it to happen. But AAB is not going to let it happen.

Sorry correction.

1. SBY will just get a smack ...
2. ... if SBY is charged ...

The Star reported:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said if there was a report against Mohd Said, it would be up to the authorities to report him to the police or the Anti-Corruption Agency, not the parliamentary rights and privileges committee.

"Authorities" to report him? Which one? Customs? Before that happens, ACA can just warm their seats?

Jeff,

I don't think NST is going to investigate the ECM Libra - Avenue deal.

This Binyu Sof investigation serves as a smoke screen to cover the fact that there is a bigger fish swimming happily in the sea right now.

Something is seriously wrong with BN and our parlimentary system that gravely needs to be corrected.

I don't think we have seen the end of this yet.

"But Said is a small fry. His company, Binyu Sof Enterprise, is ......."

Hey, Jeff
Is it now confirmed that the company is his?

JEFF OOI says: In all of today's papers, Said has reportedly admitted his is the sole proprieter of Binyu Sof Enterprise.

ops..sorry,
missed the latest news.. kindly ignore my earlier post.

During the media's briefing

Q: Is BinYusuf Enterprise registered under your name?

Yes. I am the sole proprietor. I am a poor man, you know.

Below pic is Said's house, is he poor?
http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Thursday/Frontpage/fpage1.JPG

The company is a sole proprietorship registered under Mohd Said bin Yusof (IC: 530424045447), with a house address at 676-A, Batu 2 1/2, Padang Temu, 75050 Malacca. (source: NST)

When you are an UMNO MP speaking about your wealth, it has to be relative to your fellow UMNO MP colleagues. Not your or my measure of wealth. Therefore, you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and accept that he is poor!

if Jasin guy is thrown into the fire, dare he tell the PM to check on similar deals involving the many other MPs and also his son-in-law? He can just argue, what's the difference. MPs also can do business what. MPs also can pull strings just like the rest of the priviliged ppl. Need i say more MR PM.

if u stay in Malacca in that house then u r relatively poor compared to ur fellow colleagues.

i can't wait to find out who owns the company that imported the timber. suspense.....
that company's boss must be pretty disappointed now. he thought he engaged a forwarding company that can bring everything through. then the yb went to say something to upset the custom dg....

What's the big fuss? We're over-reacting.

It is okay for an MP to own and run a business. Even Ministers do so, if we are honest about it.

It is also OK for anyone to see a person of authority for favours -- you and I would ask a mata-mata to let us go when caught with a traffic misdemeanour. Happens all the time. Even to you.

But it is NOT ok when a person pulls rank to get favours -- its called a coercion. As I see it, that silly sod Said Yusof did not pull rank. I never heard a normal MP had so much weight with the Customs.

Isn't it coercion when Pemuda Umno writes a "recommendation" letter to a certain oil company to appoint certain individuals as dealers?

The only mistake Said Yusof made was to assume too much into his position as an MP.

ok. ok. it's written on the wall already.... it reads:
in the name of helping umnoputra businesses, almost nothing is haram. close-one-eye is the rule, not an exception.
to help largely umno-supporting gov servants (e.g. police and custom officers) to attain better standard of living, just close-one-eye to those that have extra incomes.
the aca is there to keep track of all the dirts, so if the boss/pm needs to get rid of someone.... both eyes suddenly open big-big. don't believe? just ask anwar.

Jeff, another alternative peribahasa is 'bagai ketam mengajar anak berjalan lurus'. It will be yet another scot-free:

"Haiya, semuanya O.K. punya. Like you said, I tutup your mata sebelah, you tutup my mata sebelah. Dua-dua mata tutup. Sama-sama cari makan. Kau tim."

Extracted from the STAR.
"I met him (AAB), I shook hands with him and said 'I minta maaf KALAU I buat salah,' he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
His apology to the PM was conditional to his "tekanan to the customs" being judged to be wrong.

Shame! shame! shame!

YUmcious,

I didnt ask any policeman b4 to close one eye or kautim. So u are saying that it is not wrong just bcos some of us do that also. What logic is there in ur argument? He lied for goodness sake in broad daylight hoping that the truth wont be revealed. He later knew that he cant conceal any longer and thus chosed to reveal all asked the PM for forgiveness IF HE HAD DONE WRONG. Gosh, the whole WORLD knew he had done wrong. There was no coercion but there was definitely asking the customs to not do their job for his sake. In return for helping out the company he represented, he is also helping his own BUMIPUTERA company to succeed. Ppl will flock to him bcos he can settle any discrepancies easily. So if it is not for his sake, then for whom? We dont need a Tom Hanks to solve this Code. Even any TOM, Dick or Harry can do it.

Poor man?!!!!!! IS HE CRAZY OR WHAT??? An MP get at least RM5,000-00 a month plus allowances. See link for more info
(http://www.malaysia-today.net/Blog-e/2005/04/mps-woe-not-enough-money-and-no.htm)

Poor people stay in low costs houses/flats not in a VILLA. See his VILLA via this link(http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Thursday/Frontpage/fpage1.JPG)

How many times must he lie to us? I am really embarrassed to be a Malaccan and a Malaysian.

Down with Barisan Nasional!

On the Jasin MP's wrangle with customs department, we will have to enquire why is it the Malaysian timber board rules that certain sizes of timber could not be imported into this country. Is it protectionism, i.e. protecting local timber manufacturers from competition or is it to comply with indonesian regulation? barter trading should be enouraged as it improves livelihood of rural communities in indonesia, myanmar etc. barter trading is thriving in small ports such as Lukut, Muar, batu pahat as it allows small businessmen in rural communities to earn a decent living.
On PORR, it is no secret that the government gives away large contracts to Bumiputra firms, but unlike other communities, the trickling own effect on to other bumis is limited. On Porr' case, the money trail will go to
a) german car manufacturers b) Real estates overseas especially in britain and australia c) Non- bumi contractors and sub-contractors d) Foreign labourers.
The only bumis who benefit from such project are the ones related to the main contactor or their close friends.

I find it odd that is agreeable to ask someone to break the law. I find it odd that rather then to push a department first, you rather ask someone to break the law instead. I find it odd that on the basis of everyone does it, its okay. So does that mean I can download pirated movies now and plead not guilty since everyone does it?

Or is just that there is a bylaw that allows anyone to do that? Or its just unwritten?

This whole episode really gives a whole different meaning to the 4th principle of the Rukun Negara.

Sovereignty of the Law only applies to the ordinary 'rakyat's huh?

Definition of corruption from www.dictionary.com

corruption

n 1: lack of integrity or honesty (especially susceptibility to bribery); use of a position of trust for dishonest gain [syn: corruptness] [ant: incorruptness] 2: in a state of progressive putrefaction [syn: putrescence, putridness, rottenness] 3: decay of matter (as by rot or oxidation) 4: moral perversion; impairment of virtue and moral principles; "the luxury and corruption among the upper classes"; "moral degeneracy followed intellectual degeneration"; "its brothels; its opium parlors; its depravity" [syn: degeneracy, depravity] 5: destroying someone's (or some group's) honesty or loyalty; undermining moral integrity; "corruption of a minor"; "the big city's subversion of rural innocence" [syn: subversion] 6: inducement (as of a public official) by improper means (as bribery) to violate duty (as by commiting a felony); "he was held on charges of corruption and racketeering"

Mr Said Bin Yusof, deliberately and dishonestly trying to interfere with a custom officer performing his duty for his own material benefit.

He also deviously try to worm his way out by pulling in the bumiputra businessman excuse. Then put a show of "minta ampun" (like during Hari Raya celebration)...
This MP is a disgrace to all malaysian esp the malaysian.

He should be made to resign and to face corruption charges in court. BUt I guess in Malaysia, he'd get off the hook by sweeping under the carpet.... like the AP issue.

This is a challeng to Pak Lah's integrity and transparency. I'd sure like to see how he respond to this... (still hopeful)

I can tell you this..AAB WILL DO NOTHING AND SAY NOTHING..NOTHING....

Hi Jeff,
I must admit that much of what you say in your blog makes sense and I want to take this opportunity of congratulating you on your social consciousness.
But what is this? You wrote: "But why do you use bazooka to gun down a small fry?"
Hey Jeff, don't you know that it is by starting to steal five cents and getting away with it that one ends up robbing a bank?
To me pushing one's weight around because one is an MP is a sort of bullying and this is no small matter!

After all the dirt, and assuming that they are all true (adherring to the principle of innocent till proven guilty), I can only conclude the following:

1. There are some very thick skinned and unshamable BN MPs around. Read: no conscience or ethics.

2. There is tacid support for such actions amongst the MPs, in the absence of any pip from the most of the other BN MPs. Read: possible partners in crime?

3. Absence of official action suggests again tacid support, or inability to react, from the leadership. Read: TDM's half past six leadership.

4. Invocation of affirmative action to justify act laid bare the official agenda, racism above law. Read: Racist crooks.

Finally, the axiom "those who lives in glass houses should not throw stones" holds true. With so many bigger issues like the ECN Libra and PORR outstanding, that may explain the inability of the AAB administration to throw the first stone.

Bottom line, I have lost faith in the present administration, and the country is going to the dogs(quote TDM).

I am just angry that I am dragged along down the sewer through no fault of my own.
