Internet connectivity... back again!

Thanks to the Streamyx guys at Semarak and Brickfields, my connectivity is back up again.

While network performance is being monitored closely, I understand from industry sources that there are some lapses involving Marconi equipment that need to be ironed out between the nodes located at Kelana Jaya and Brickfields. My connection, routed through the TM Exchange at USJ6, has to pass through Kelana Jaya and Brickfields before it reaches the border gateway.

The lesson I learned is that ( 1 ) When it comes to network turnaround, TM Net is at the mercy of TM Wholesale, the sister company from which it leases the network infrastructure -- in this case, vendor tardiness was very glaring; ( 2 ) The service of TM Net Call Centre, which is outsourced to another TM subsidiary, VADS Berhad, sucks big time. All the Call Centre agents manning the seats should be taught to read the dockets -- which have specifics file numbers -- and more importantly, cases that have been escalated to multi-departments, more diligently.

As a result of the 7-day connectivity woes, compounded by my US trip two weeks ago, I now have a serious backlog on my Gmail. I will try to go through as many as I could tonight (and there is a farewell to do, among the many after-hour obligations). I may have missed some important appointments or deadlines. I must apologise profusely before hand to whom it may concern.

To take snapshots of the link qualityof my recovered Streamyx, I did some random speed tests to local sites and overseas, namely UK and US (Pacific Coast & East Coast), spread across eight audit sites so as to minimise the result bias. All tests are done individually and sequentially, starting from 7.10pm, with about 1MB of data via Firefox browser ver 1.0.6. My Streamyx is of 1Mbps package.

I must admit the speed tests was not exhaustive or conclusive, but the test results did show a pattern of lacklustre in international links. See the screenshots.

I appreciate that Streamyx Semarak and Brickfields, and TM Wholesale at USJ are working with me to monitor network performance and Internet link quality to overseas sites. I must say I really their phone calls and tolerating my frank feedback.... [Read More]

Didn't know there are so many sites we can do a dyno test for our Internet connection. Thank you so much!

Ughh... External link still suxxors. Thankfully the news sites that I frequent are still ok for normal browsing :D

All links of streamyx to the outside world (outside the island of Malaysia) suck and stink big time already for month.
Streamyx rakes in millions, but refuses to rent proper bandwidth abroad.
Only profit counts, no complaint helps, the usual answer 'yes its congested'.
High time they do something or reduce the streamyx monthly charge by 50% or more, because thats what they deliver!

just a point of reference...

I'm getting 2Mbps up and 800kbps down for US Seattle test. 40kb download from cyber..

btw.. i'm in perth.. :)

good for u jeff. i m still on dial-up though my other streamyx is back online at 7pm. mind you, both accts are located in the same area/taman. just abt 3 mins drive away.

With so many companies' involved, do you feel like a... in this case, a takraw ball?

I am pleasantly surprised that TM also provides the "Speedometer" service. I said to myself :- "WOW.. Impressive ! TM is truely on its way of recovery and become a truly world class organisation..."

So I happily click on the link provided and to check my speed. This is what I get on 816AM, moment ago:-

"Error Status code : 2000
Notice

Our server is currently busy or unavailable. Please try with another FTP server or try again at a later date."

Bastard ! What a bastard ! They even did not say sorry or TQ. Two of the most important goldern words when your service is not available or sucks !

You are not alone Jeff. I heard the whole streamyx backbone in Glenmarie also down. Our co hv a few streamyx line in Glenmarine location and all of them not working

For the spam, I recommend you use Firefox and install the Blue Frog extension. Gmail's "report spam" just places spam at the spam folder (and is likely to remember their signature) but does nothing further. Blue Frog will communicate with the ISPs. You will have more time dealing with real mails.

How do you expect to get decent result from various ISP speedometer when the "traceroute" show slow connection within Streamyx network? If TMnet don't fix their trunk, there is nothing you can do.

I tested bandwidth by putting up a speedometer on a very fast server in Holland.
Also have one on my server in Malaysia.
Within Malaysia i get on my 500K package 450K download 230K upload.
From server in Holland:
download 230K or less
upload 120-130K
From Malaysia to Holland:
download 200K
upload 120-130K

great those international connections!! Streamyx you SUCK big time

I encounter this problem connecting to Streamyx.
Situations are such like; I might be able to connect now but won't be able tomorrow morning and noon and nite but the follwing day i can. There are also situations where the connection hangs out of sudden..has anyone enounter similar problem?

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
