'Hindu God & Muslim Priest'

This was related to me by reporters who covered Dr Mahathir yesterday, where he was seemingly pissed at the latest turn of event over the 'crooked' aka scenic aka cynic bridge.

"Why you asked me so many questions when you know your story will be spiked by the mainstream media?" The Tun was overheard as saying.

"Why so?" a reporter asked.

"Don't you know Malaysian press is controlled by a Hindu God and Muslim Priest?"

I know of the Hindu God, even Goddess. But Muslim Priest?

Tell me.

Jeff,

Quote "where he was seemingly pissed".
Are you saying he was intoxicated or drunk?.
If so, that may explain the 'Hindu God and Muslim Priest' - because I've no idea what he was on about.

Jeff, why so coy?
Oh, GOoD Fridae!

Any chance of a Voodoo High Priestess involvement too?

Don't shoot me, but I immediately think of Samy Veloo and Pak Lah. Remote, but possible...

But Desi, I think your guess is closer...

Jeff,

I think the term Hindu God and Muslim Priest refers to ONE person, not two. Two parts to the name. and I'm sure you don't need anyone to tell you who that is.

desiderata got it right

http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/mullah

One and the same.

To Prem - wow this sounds more like it's coming out from Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code!!

Actually NST is getting all the attentions they needs to boost their readership.

Kali is a goddess with a long and complex history in Hinduism. Her earliest history as a creature of annihilation still has some influence, while more complex Tantric beliefs sometimes extend her role so far as to be the Ultimate Reality and Source of Being. Finally, the comparatively recent devotional movement largely conceives of Kali as a straightforwardly benevolent mother-goddess. Kali is associated with many devis (goddesses) as well as the deva (god) Shiva.

Mullahs (Persian: ملا) are Islamic clergy. Ideally, they should have studied the Qur'an, Islamic traditions (hadith), and Islamic law (fiqh). They are often hafiz who know the Qur'an by heart. However, uneducated villagers often recognise a literate Muslim with a less than complete Islamic training as their "mullah" or religious cleric. Muslim schoolteachers are also often referred to as mullahs. The term is most often applied to Shi'a clerics, as Shi'a Islam is the predominant tradition in Iran. However, the term is very common in Urdu, spoken throughout northern India, and it is used throughout the Indian subcontinent for any Muslim clergy, Sunni or Shi'a.

ROFL.
Isn't Tun M himself that put this kind of hindu god, muslim priest propaganda media control in place?

Again, the Tun is shooting his own foot.

Flash

You have great insight. Syabas.

Dr. M refers to the embodiment of the Hindu God/Goddess and a Muslim priest in one person.

Kali-Mullah !!

Who else than Jeff's antagonist in NST in the media.

Give credit to the old man for having a sharp mind and a peppery sense of humour.

moo_t. shooting his own foot is too much lah... why not he drop bricks on in own toe....

Got this over the net by Anil Netto 14/9/04. Aiyooh how time has changed……

“The group editor-in-chief of the pro-establishment New Straits Times・ Kalimullah Hassan, was quick to rally to Mahathir’s defence. In his regular column, he took a swipe at a foreign wire service writers suggestion that Anwar’s release marked the end of the Mahathir era.・
Reminding readers that the court had cleared Anwar of the sodomy conviction but not the old corruption allegations, Kalimullah wrote in his column on Sept 12: There is no merit in revisiting the last six years because it is still an emotive and debatable issue. The courts have freed Anwar but the same judges maintain that he engaged in homosexual activities the reason Dr. Mahathir gave for sacking him as being unfit to lead the country.・
Kalimullah conceded that Anwar’s supporters and friends did not believe the sodomy accusation at all and maintain that he was framed. But the editor was nonetheless effusive in his praise for Mahathir: Dr Mahathir is just Dr Mahathir to the majority of Malaysians good leader, a proud nationalist, an ardent patriot and a statesman. This is how history will remember him.”

Flash!

Good one, you have solved the riddle.

Hindu God --> Kali
Muslim Priest --> Mullah

So, Hindu God and Muslim Priest is Kalimullah, the most powerful man in NST.

Tun Dr M.

u love to hate him, u hate to love him...

actually, methinks it was really desiderata who broke the code first...

is that how you guys used to refer to the man in your journo days, desi? ;p

Wow,
More puzzling than Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. TDM is the Sarcasm Almighty, who wrecks vengeance with His Schloong on all who questions Him!

That's how I remembered Him.

sheahnee:

since you asked, as far as journos were concenred, the former NST GEIC was called only by first half of the honorific tiotle of Hindu god; methinks the second half came with the advent of Blogsworld, claiming 5th esaters status, being more engaged with 4th estaters mostly in antagonistic rather than friendly terms, so the 'mullah" was added to conneote the les than esteemed position the poor guy was thrust (trusted?) into.
Desi is jest another writHer ... mayhaps, sankey?

Short Q, long A, cos that's part of my name which I must live up too. If thou givethe Desi a de-meaning nick, it's okay, just Be Prepared by a Scout to face a RM20million suit; I have an journo friend who is a chip lawyer.

HeadGasket...the englsih use "pissed off" to mean annoyed while the americans use "pissed" to mean the same. but to use both terms to mean the same is confusing.

Dr.M....Sarcasm Almighty.agreed.no case ,, now ,,lets get confused here a while , Mullah KALI ! MELAYU ! MUSLIM ! And MUSLIM Malayalee getting pissed at it ,, sipn docs , get to work.

There is no priesthood in Islam. The Toon's senility seems to be manifesting itself....

- MENJ

no offense menj but you don't seem to be getting the joke.

Oh, I got it alright, but there never is a priesthood in Islam and never will be. If he has to make stupid crytic statements like this, then use another example. Don't involve Islam in his vendetta of Kali + Mullah.

- MENJ

But, THAT is the joke, menj.

If he was to use other metaphor/crytic-ology, it wouldnt be the same joke.

:-)

The Hindu GOD has a rumbling tongue and his eyes are forever wide opened searching for any possible challenges or betrayal from is followers. His spears are always raised ready to execute pre-emptive killings .Under normal circumstances he choose to communicate in Malay or English fluently .When he is under distress or exited he will bust into "pasar"malay or pidgin english with a heavy tamil lingo. He believes in a committee of one with the rest present only as observers. He is always colourful and immaculately dressed.

The Malay priest excel in his sermon and motherhood statements. He adopts a zombie like gait and management style.Always groggy and unsteady in his movements and handling of issues.Floundering most of the time, he needs continuous hand holding and endorsement by others to feel comfortable. This compounded by ailments of the heart makes him hide behind committees and royal commissions whenever serious decisions are to be made.He remembers not the saying that,"the donkey was a horse created by the committee".

To be fair to all we must remind ourselves that Mahathir exploited both of them to his maximum political advantage during his premiership.

The Malay priest, for instance was once a white sheep that had enabled Mahathir to disembarked from the black tiger he was riding. It was of course foolish for Mahathir to mount the tiger in the first instance. The problem of this, as an old chinese proverb says, "when you need to dismount;it would try to swallow you up".This white sheep is now fast transforming into a goat-the proverbial scapegoat for many things that have not gone too smoothly.

The Hindu God was used by Mahathir as a cheer leader and a gate keeper. An appropriate assignment considering his shinning daggers, wide opened eyes and a loud voice .

Suria Kenchana , be enlightened a while , its a her and not he ... KALI:Although her presentation in the West is usually as simply dark and violent, Kali (Sanskrit: कली) is a goddess with a long and complex history in Hinduism.

Kali is generally considered one of the consorts of Shiva. Her name seems to be a female version of the word 'kala' (Sanskrit for 'dark', 'time'- time in this form being a euphemism for death - or 'devourer of time' ); it also means 'Black Female,' in contrast to her consort, Shiva, who is white. The goddesses that she is associated or identified with include Durga, Bhowani Devi, Sati, Rudrani, Parvati, Chinnamasta, Chamunda, Kamakshi, Uma, Meenakshi, Himavati, Kumari. These names, if repeated, are believed to give special power to the worshipper.

Mullahs :(Persian: ملا) are Islamic clergy.

The term is frequently used in English; it was adopted from Urdu by the British rulers of India. In English, it may carry overtones of condescension and disrespect; it is often found in the phrase "mad mullah". English-speaking Muslim clergy rarely call themselves mullahs.

Mullahs have frequently been involved in politics, but only recently have they actually taken power. Mullahs seized power in Iran in 1979, and later, in Afghanistan under the Taliban.

The surias and kenchanas allowed this ,and sad old beloved leader of mine Dr.M whineing for what ??

menj

Your view that Islam has no priesthood is an issue of semantics.

A council of Mullahs... what do you call that in simple english? Priesthood.

A kathi or a mullah? what is he in layman english? A prient.

Malaysian's JAKIM? What do you call them in simple english? Priesthood.

You are splitting hairs on semantics.

All religions have priesthood, whether you like the word or not. Islam is no exception.

correction

A kathi or a mullah? what is he in layman english? A prient.

read as "A priest"

"Your view that Islam has no priesthood is an issue of semantics."

Nonsense. It an issue that simply never arises at all. "Council of Muslim scholars" is simply that, a council of scholars. Each of them can give differing views on a subject and issue a statement and it is up to the Ummah to adopt it or otherwise. A "fatwa" is not a binding statement the same way a Christian or a Hindu edict is, it is simply an OPINION. Geddit? An OPINION. I have disagreed and gone against various fatwa which, in my view, contradicts the spirit of the Quran and Sunnah. That does not make me any less a Muslim.

So please, Frankie, get yourself educated about Islamic jurisprudence. There is NO priesthood in Islam. And that is where Islam is unique and superior to the other religions. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism has monks, priests and rabbis. But in Islam, there is NO priesthood. End of the story!

By the way, the term "Mullah" is an offensive term among South Asians for a belligerent shaykh. It is no longer used for a respected person, but for a despised and intolerant individual.

- MENJ

"Islam is unique and superior to the other religions."

superior to other religions?

goodness gracious me!

MENJ, now u are trying to start an argument. i think what frank was tryin to say was thats how people in english speaking reconize those Councils as priest. it doesn't really relate to other christianity, it just tellin "these people are as significant as priest in christianity." just to explain with example. same responsibility, different name, different method.
and one more thing, dont u think "Islam is unique and superior to the other religions." is a lil too harsh? what if i put buddhism in it, you would probly feel the same way i do.

JEFF OOI says: Stopping bickering. Send your grievances to the Tun if you take offence to his anecdote. Meanwhile, there is this cartoon that's circulating on the Net:

Guys, no need to go head over heels over this. Menj is obviously missing the point and looking for a fight. Best ignore him and enjoy the humor instead.

Hahahahahahaha.

"Islam is unique and superior to the other religions" no arguement there from me Menj.Like if someone told me that you're one dumb prick ,i wouldnt argue with that too.Have a nice day.

dont u guys get it?
tun is speaking in highly cryptic verses.
its another way of saying tht our mainstream media, our lives and our government are all under control of the freemasons

OK...Our TUN's anecdote can be interpreted in many ways..so common of him. I am enjoying him while he still is around. It reflects his ingenuity. He's not that fixated when interpreting religions, and surely he had used the word "priest" for a reason. You just have to think of what "the reason" was. Of course, dun be that serious about it...after all, Tun M was merely being sarcastic...

Sarcasm Almighty.. hmmmm...I would agree to that title be bestowed on him!
