Google Analytics

I have been reviewing Google Analytics for about a month. It gives me several insights, for free, about the traffic dynamics of this blog.

Broadband users

Sempoiii... I am delighted to report that 80% of Screenshots readers are logging in via broadband -- that's way above the national penetration level for broadband, which currently tracks below 2% of the national population. Only 15% are logging in from dial-ups.

Brand Equity

Perhaps, we could interprete that Screenshots now enjoys explicit visibility as a blog brand. About 84% of the readers enter direct via www.jeffooi.com, with 8% via Malaysiakini, 4% via unknown referal sites, 3.5% via Google and about 1% from Yahoo.

Browser/Platform Combo

Interestingly. Microsoft/Windows/IE dominate Screenshots readers' user experience. But Firefox is gaining strength for the browser landscape.

In terms of Browsers - Platform combinations, Google Analytics indicates the following pattern:

  3. Internet Explorer 6.0 - Windows 2000 -- 5.36%

  4. Firefox 1.0.7 - Windows XP -- 4.82%

  5. Internet Explorer 6.0 - Windows 98 -- 3.57%

  6. Safari 417.9.2 - Macintosh PPC -- 1.01%

  7. Firefox 1.5.0.1 - Windows 2000 -- 0.99%

  8. Firefox 1.0.6 - Windows XP -- 0.76%

  9. Firefox 1.0 - Windows XP -- 0.61%

  10. Internet Explorer 5.5 - Windows 98 -- 0.56%

A commanding 96% of Screenshots readers are using Microsoft's Windows platform. MacIntosh and Linus trail at 2.84% and 0.79%, occupying the 2nd and 3rd placing, respectively.

Encouraged by the insights gathered from Google Analytics, Screenshots will maximise its broadband community to help Minister Keng Yaik push his agenda for broadband access and content in Malaysia.

I will introduce the beta site for a new service next Monday, and another broadband experience by mid May.

Stay tuned!

u know why google analytics cannot accept urls like something.com/myblog? is it a technical issue?

Ah my first comment at Screenshots...finally got a Typekey ID.

Yes Analytics is based on Urchin, a stats company which Google aquired, you can only enter URL's not subdirectories as once you enter the URL all subdirectories are tracked and can be filtered.

I've been using Analytics since it first came out, I do find it useful but has a rather confusing and overinvolved interface.

If you want something a little simple, with more blog focused stats try Performancing Metrics.

Analytics is more towards web sites with marketing budgets and Adwords campaigns.

I guess most of the readers of this blog must be logging in directly since it is an excellect source of news. Before I go into any other site everyday, I click into Screenshots to see what's cooking in the homefront! Keep up the good work!

So when are jeffooi.com t-shirts on sale?

:-)

JEFF OOI says: I can privatise it. Open tender or direct nego? Any Mr. 20% out there? ;-)

I am surprised Opera can be identified. Most trackers I see on the net recognise it as IE.

80% of your readers on broadband? How many of your readers are from Malaysia compared with overseas? I think that there you might have a large number of people hitting your site from outside Malaysia.

JEFF OOI says: I tracked using other analytics, they indicate an average of 20% -- of total traffic -- coming from overseas.

You said "I will introduce the beta site for a new service next Monday, and another broadband experience by mid May."

So where is it? we are all excited!!! Time to change...

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
