To VVIPs who use police outriders to cut traffic

From The Edge Weekly (March 6, Frankly Speaking):

Meanwhile, petrol prices have gone up.

The government says it will improve public transportation... at some point in the future, though nobody is holding their breath considering the track record thus far. So in the interim, what is the tax and ratepayer to do? Change lifestyle how? Eat cheaper? Use less electricity and water? Buy fewer non-essentials? Grit our teeth and send the children to government schools? Buy the pirated DVD for RM9 so that the whole family gets to watch a movie instead of forking out RM12 each for cinema tickets?

All that is achievable. But using public transportation as a substitute for cars or motocycles? Not yet.

The Edge editors recalled a chapter in recent history to draw a parallel.

During the French Revolution, Queen Marie Antoinette allegedly said: "Let them eat cake" when she was told that the French peasants had no bread to eat.

Fortunately, our VVIPs who usually resort to police outriders to help them weave through the city traffic have not yet said that to us... "Let them eat cake".

hahah...eat cheaper? I liked that joke...

some people are living on cheap..that they have nothing to cut back..

I think the people in The Edge Weekly are loaded.

Haven't they watched TV3's Bersamamu program? Apa lagi 'lifestyle' can they change, hah!

And guess what? With the fuel price hike, their Bersamamu's crew will be a lot busier this time round bcoz a lot more people will have to be 'Bersama' TV3.

That's right. BN is out of sync. Or had they ever been in sync?
People have no bread to eat. Look deeper Pak lah!

Likening the govt to Marie Antoinette? My primary school history taught me that her hubby was beheaded in the famous French Revolution to bring down the monarchy and their excesses.

I hope no one is suggesting that in this case. This is ISA territory man! Don't be surprised you're hit with a DDOS again. Or worse, get hauled up for inciting racial hatred against the petroleum companies.

Only happens in Malaysia.

Change lifestyle ma..

Note:
"Outriders" = "Style"

Outriders leading the way = LIFESTYLE!!

I have this friend who changed his 'Lifestyle' during the Asian currency crisis in the late 90's. He saw his investments in the stocks/shares shrunk and has to service his bank loans which amounts to the thousands every month.

He changed his eating style by skipping lunch... and 3 months later he suffered severe gastric pains. It's not worth it to cut on your meals just to save a few ringgit.

Can I borrow your time machine? If not, let me know what herbs you take so you can live for 200+ years to take a lesson from a teacher that husband being decapitated.

Now go Mcdonald and buy yourself a scope of icecream.

The French changed their lifestyle by changing the power structure of their government from a feudal to a democratic system. The days of passing power from father to son as in a mornachy or titled noble class were over. Now their Presidency has a fixed tenure and their elected government of party politics also face the ballot every election. We need to mandate our representatives to be more considerate to our lifestyle and cost of living by making sure that they respect our needs.

yeah, do what the leaders tell you, not follow waht they do!

They go to MOnte Carlo for holidays, you stay back in Kuala Lumpur to oplay guli-guli or walk the malls -- Don't Buy Anything, jest look-see.

The BN leaders were returned by 90% in GE2004, so they have yes, no see!
Yeah, have kuih kochi, then Pergi!-lah Balik Kampong, Tanam Kangkong ...

Hey Moo,
You cow!

JEFF OOI says: Is this wry joke or name calling? Please DON'T degenerate my blog into your mud-pit!

Please read my post again. No where does it refer to my teacher.

Go chew the cud will you?

doesnt make sense to increase the petrol price if the public transportation havent been upgraded yet, with the increase of fuel the public transport fare would icrease as well. We are screwed ladies and gents

Marie Antoinette did not say that words, it was work of spinmaster. The good comparison is Jin Hui Ti of ancient China.

We, the taxpayers should have the right to weave through traffic. Let the VVIPs wait.

Hi Jeff,

Did anyone realise that the tolled highways are supposed to give citizens a paid for freeway and not the gridlocks we see almost every day - you calculate the WASTAGE of about 2-3 gallons of petrol/exhaust carbon monoxide emissions per car per day x nos. of cars/m-bikes in traffic jams - Is it the citizens' fault after paying for all the m-vehicle taxes, toll charges, the extra fuel wastages & this 30 cents increase. How much more can the citizens tighten their belts when the Government has not delivered us that "paid for freeway access without the gridlock". By right the excess fuel wastage in gridlocks should be tax deductible !

There are no Malaysia tax payer anymore. Have you all noticed? You are all now working for the Govt. That a nice way of putting it. There was a time when Govt worked for the people, but that was a very long time ago. You are all slaves and slaves have to live a lifestyle of hardship of same wages while price of things goes up, tolls goes up, inflation goes and taxes go up. Next year, they will just introduce new type of taxes just to make you work hard for your lord and master's life-style.

Flyer_168 - solution to the traffic problem, we can ride cows to work...after all, they contribute just as much to the green house effect as a motorcar. To answer you question about the belt, the masters will like to see a 18inch belt size. So, everyone suck that stomach in and tighten!!!!!

If the Malaysian Govt is serious about the fuel problems, why don't they remove taxes for fuel efficient vehicles? Has anyone tried to find out the price of a hybrid toyota or honda in Malaysia?

change lifestyle...
definately...

change to 016 operator coz it is the cheapest among all...

change my mind not to subcribe to any 3G service coz need to save $$$ for the extra ~20% of fuel every litre...

makan... bread also naik harga... what to eat?! makan angin only...

cook... use charcoal... can save up 20 over bux and the government also no need to subsidise 20 over bux for 14kg gas...

drink... mineral water... extra cost again... thanks to the privatisation of our water supply... stink like sh!t...

wash... rain water... seem like no rain lately... alternately choice... dig a well*... and put some frog underneath...

alternative transportation... electric motorbike... BANNED by JPJ due to it doesnt consume any fuel and NO POLUTION!!!

power... solar panel... heavy tax imposed cause it generates electric power...

what else lifestyle can we change besides to bear all these costs?! DO WE HAVE ANY ALTERNATIVE?!

conclusion:-
government allowed their own people to burn down our houses but not allowed u and me to light up the candles at night!!!

* well has been banned in klang valley due to some stupid reason... sorry... i cannt remember what is the reason cause it is too stupid...

ooh... hybrid car?! u can get it from NAZA... end up u still pay the "hidden" tax to our iron lady and her beloves son in-law...

do u think they allowed anyone to bring in hybrid machine and let the kereta "bodoh" die?!

vvip with outriders? well... at least these guys are called yb, yab, dok, tun, bun, etc...
but i've on more than one occassions seen outriders clearing traffic for a car with a police flag or army flag stuck in front. wth! these are servants of the people or saddam-hussien-wannabes?

If the petrol subsidy cut is can make us more competitive, we'll take it. Not sure if the fund is really going into inproving the public trasnsport system, but I hope the goverment is going to help those in need, disregard of colour of skin, religion etc. so long they are our brothers and sisters.
