State of watery affair in 'Developed State'... ( 2 )
UPDATED VERSION. Kids make good photos, but not when they are traumatised in situations such as the massive Shah Alam flash floods. All on-the-scene pictures by reader Munzir Fauzi, time-stamped Feb 27.

The photos were held over due to server outage on Monday.
UPDATED: A Page 3 exclusive in The Star (Mar 3) says the Sultan of Selangor has summoned Shah Alam Mayor Ramli Mahmud and other top state department officers to his palace, wanting to know why the massive flood had happened on Sunday and the measures to be taken to alleviate the problem.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed his disappointment that the flood had caused so much hardship to residents. “The Sultan told the officers he wanted a long-term solution to be drawn up. The Sultan was shocked that Shah Alam, having achieved city status, should face such a problem,” said a palace official yesterday.
It is understood that the Sultan told the officials to stop blaming the floods on Mother Nature, and also stop blaming each other.
Comments
This Sultan is right. It will help a lot if people stop throwing rubbish in drains, rivers, etc. Also use some common sense in development.
Live in harmony with mother nature.

what else can the mayor and his people do other then blaming each other and mother nature.
Does it take 3 major floods, some 14 years of flood experience and numerous meetings and several heads changing to solve the floods problem.
They don't live there and again if they don't solve it some else will do it. let that someone else take the blame.
Ask for more federal money and yes, keep it till next year and let another flood happen.
Thats Shah Alam, a developed state with alot of excuses.
If you watch TV3 over the meetings with the Shah Alam mayor, his people and the angry residents, you would observe that these shah alam officers put on a synical face with a look of "I don't give a damn, say what you want to say and get lost"

Now we got - Stinking Developed State too...
MAIL HIGHLIGHTS: The stinking truth!
THE public was told by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) that excessive ammonia was the reason for their smelly tap water. And that it was nothing to worry about.
The whole story is now out, and you may be horrified. Discharges from pig and dairy farms, oxidation ponds and palm oil mills caused the ammonia, it was revealed by the Selangor State Government yesterday. This has led to consumer associations, trade unions, residents’ associations and individuals slamming the State Government and Syabas.
The Selangor State Government owned up yesterday that the stink in the water that flowed from taps in the Klang Valley was caused by discharges from pig and dairy farms, oxidation ponds and palm oil mills.
The statement horrified thousands of affected consumers who had been told that the stink, which many said smelled like faeces, was from excessive ammonia content in the water. However, they were not told the source of the ammonia contamination.
Now that it is out of the bag, consumer associations, trade unions, residents’ associations and individuals have slammed the State Government and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) for “sheer incompetence” in safeguarding their health and well-being.

I felt sad but those who felt miserable would be the person who suffers it the most. The one who experience it really have a great challenge ahead.
