Return of Parliamentary sitcoms?
This afternoon, the Agong will solemnise the start of this year’s Parliamentary sitting for Session One, which will last for 30 days before it ends on May 4. In between, the 9th Malaysia Plan will be revealed by this month end.
Let’s monitor the Dewan Rakyat this season, it may be more exciting than your regular sitcom on TV.
For this week's Whatzzup!, my videocast blogsite, I featured a video-clip which I received last year. It shows a recording of a heated debate in the Dewan Rakyat on November 23, 2005.
In the video, you can see how a deputy minister in the PM’s Department, when ambushed with an oral question he had no details to substantiate in his reply, had tried to ‘goreng’ his way through. It triggered a round of oral orgy that almost insulted the animal kingdom.
All this happened while a some foreign visitors were following the proceedings from the public gallery. Download Hansard (PDF) here for comparison.
Title: Dewan Rakyat November 23, 3005
Length: 11′39″
File Size: 8.81Mb
Format: .wmv
Go take a look at Whatzzup!

No wonder AAB wouldn't agree to broadcast parliament sessions live, citing costs etc... It is because the parliament is more like a zoo than anything else.
The arguments sounded more like a "mamak stall" arguments btw ah kau and abu instead of the well respected, well informed debaters that I thought they should be, making decisions based on solid facts for the greater good of the country. Instead, they was time instigating animosity and went on and on arguing about it. That's tax payers money going down the drain.
As a mature minister in the Dept of prime minister, I'd expect a little more dignity, self-control and inteligence than to let anger overtake him and let "mamak stall" comments shoot out from his mouth. It degrades himself and malaysia as a whole. The foreigners will be laughing all the way home back to their country. Laughing at our stupidity... the stupid malaysians to put imbeciles like these into office!!!
I also noticed that the BN MP's are behaving recklessly like they bloody own the parliament. Yeah... they have 95% majority... but wield it with a little more respect. Indeed, they do not deserve to rule, if this is their attitude!! I think, we as Malaysians should teach them a lesson for their impudence come next election. I say we should support academics, people with INTELLIGENCE, INTEGRITY and SUBSTANCE to be in the parliament. NOt someone who only knows what any mamak customer knows. NOt someone who looks at the judiciary system and says "it is ok... we are changing, but these things take time, you know". As lon no one makes noise, everything is a-ok.
NATIONAL HUMILIATION!!!

Dear Pak Lah & Co,
This is the beginning of your downfall. Just open your eyes and read the comments on this blog. If that’s not enough, then open your ears and listen to what the man in the street has to say about your government and you.
Today I took a taxi from KLCC. I started chatting to the driver who is an old Pak Cik and I asked him how is he doing after the increase in petrol price. He said he doesn’t make any profits now. “But what other jobs can I do?” he said with sad eyes.
I got angry and I said that “the government is stupid.” He raised his voice and told me that “it’s not the government who is stupid. It’s the rakyat who is stupid.”
“If not, why did we vote for those leaders. We are even more stupid than them. In fact, it’s the government who is smart”.
Those words hit me and left me like a train wreck. The Pak Cik was absolutely right. The rakyat is even more stupid than the government. If not, why did the rakyat vote for such leaders? If not, how did people like Sammy Velu and Rafidah Aziz get to maintain their power?
From today onwards, I vow not to be stupid. I swear that by the next election, I will register myself and I will vote for any party that opposes BN. Some of you might call me stupid for my selection criteria.
But I don’t care. I am frustrated. I have the power to change things. And I will use this power as I wish.
Smell the coffee and wake up Pak Lah. History has shown that when the government oppresses the poor and the working class, a revolution is in the making. Think about what happened in France, Russia, Germany, Philippines and Indonesia. It would be unwise to challenge what history has proven right all along.
Although Malaysian politics always leave me depressed, I am actually glad to see these signs of frustrations. I am glad because people are waking up from the stupor and realise how ineffective the BN government has been. And I am happiest to see the people coming to realise that they have the power to change things. The power is in your vote.

out of no choice, i too will vote for opposition when i am back. And I will try to persuade people that i know to do the same. Not that opposition is lot better BUT to remove the so called 'immunitity' BN has in parliment.
Thank God that we now have Internet where we get to see these funny acts.
Think these would be a good tool to be used during GE.

That is what happens when you give too much power to the Govt. I see that some MPs do not care anymore about the voters (until the next elections when they will promise them better roads, schools and the moon)
You should vote the opposition into the upper house as it will be a good check and balance against the lower house, otherwise, they will just ram whatever they want down the citizens without any thoughts to the very people who voted them in. Not to worry as this happens in very country that votes the same party to the upper and lower house, given them the numbers to ignore debate over important issues.
If Malaysia is to move forward, vote on policies that effects you, have public debate and air question time over RTM to better inform the public and performance on the very people we hire. What do they have to hide from the people? Afterall, it laws and issues that effects every citizens that voted them in and give the people a chance to decide who is really looking after the people and who are just wasting tax-payers money.

Check out the above website to see how a parliament should work, not that I adore the british but if you compare them to ours, our lawmakers leave much to be desired...

Perhaps the reason why AAB does not agree to broadcasting our parliamentary proceedings is because he's too ashamed of some "Mamak stall" MPs who has lots of noise but very little substance...
