"It's silly (of The Star) but I won't sweat it..."
Today, The Star finally published the Marina Mahathir column it missed publishing on March 8.
Apparently, Marina had an interview earlier with Eileen Ng of Associated Press:
The column was originally due to be published Wednesday to mark International Women's Day but it was delayed amid sensitivities over her remarks.
Marina said she was informed by The Star that the column would be published Friday but the last two paragraphs in which she takes a jab at government leaders for not protecting Muslim women's rights, would be axed.
"I think it's silly (of The Star) but I will not sweat it. The main points are there," she said.
Thanks YW Loke of BeritaMalaysia for the AP link.

her column was published becos she is marina MAHATHIR. If it had been another person, the article would have been in the trash can by now.
I think the editors must have been running up and down checking and double checking with "higher ups" not in the news office to get clearance.
and luckily she is muslim..if it were another writer of another religion, i would not dare imagine the backlash.

What is pitiful is that The Star think they have the right to decide what we can or cannot read. It is the most shameful newspaper on earth!...A good friend of Adolf Hitler probably runs the show there!

There are things that need to be said, and Marina has the courage to lay them out in the open, if that's not a "towering" person, I don't know who is!
The question now is, how long is she going to remain a "theStar" columnist?

i agree with observer.
i publish the article in my blog and someone said i shouldn't have because it was very hypocritical of marina to come up with that article. i responded, why should i decided for my readers that they should not read this article? i will publish it as i like and let those who read it comes to their own conclusion.
well i do agree too that her name with a 'mahathir' there probably gets her article published in the star but i hate it when people judge her article with her as "dr m's daughter" and not as her as an individual.

Actually Marina is wrong. There are many more categories of citizenship in Malaysia. Now she knows how the non malays feel.
Nevertheless it is good she is fighting for the rights of women d muslim women in particular. At least she is using her Mahatir name for good use.

I just want to say that she is doing a fine job all this while.
You know, bearing the surname and yet writing all this stuff.
I don't think Star is the main boss here. After a several suspension and apologizing out of reporting the "news".Well, it's a risk. The Big Boss don't to slap themself just like what they had to do with NSTP.

Marina Mahathir has to be credited for speaking her mind on an issue affecting an imporrtant secgment of Malaysian society. As implied by Rocky, there is a wider form of Apartheid imposed on other fellow Malaysians, and unfortunately Marina does come from a family whihc had/has much power/influence
in perpetuating that policy (during Tun Dr Mahathir's regime), now inherited by Pak Lah and the said policy/ies continue...
We indeed have a PROBLEM, don't we, and a reluctant Star to run current national issues, compounded by a questionable GEIC (I won't elaborate in case Jeff rulkes me out of point...:) wgho has many reAsons NOT wantimng to stick his Ostrich's/or isit Emu's? head out.

OMG! This was what the Mainland China's doing in the 20th Century. Over the millenium now, China Gomen is more open and more tolerate than this. Why should The Star practice the old ancient chinese philosophy in this "tanah tumpahmya darah ku" country. The communists never ruled us in this country. Is the democratic gomen ruling all the while. OMG!! hat's going on ? Are we...do Pak Lah...? OMG!!! Or we are back to early 70's.

Well one thing for sure. If Star is practising ancient chinese philosophy in this 'tanah tumpah darahku'. It is definitely their effort to COMPLY with a Goverment that is practising the same philosophy.

Perhaps this was what the Star feared?
From BBC, "Malaysia 'apartheid' row deepens"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4795808.stm
excerpt:
"There has been an angry reaction in Malaysia to remarks by the daughter of the former PM comparing Muslim women to black South Africans under apartheid."
