Income Tax again

Just to lessen your anguish of not getting last year's tax refund and time again for this year's tax returns, here's an anecdote from accounting man Radha K Vengadasalam:

At the end of the tax year the Tax Office sent an inspector to audit the books at a synagogue.

While he was checking the books, he turned to the rabbi and said: "I notice you buy a lot of candles. What do you do with the candle drippings?"

"Good question," said the Rabbi. "We save them up and send them back to the candle makers, and every now and then they send us a free box of candles."

"Oh, do you now," replied the auditor a little disappointed that his unusual question had been met with such a practical answer. But on he went in his obnoxious way.

"What about all the matzo you have purchased," he asked. "What do you do with all the crumbs?"

"Ah, yes," replied the Rabbi, realising that the auditor was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question.

"We collect them, send them back to the bakery and every now and then they send us a free box of matzo balls."

"Hmmm..." replied the auditor, beginning to realise that the Rabbi was more than a match for him.

"Well then rabbi," he continued, determined to catch him out, "what do you do with all the left over foreskins from the circumcisions you perform?"

"Here too, we do not waste," answered the Rabbi without a blink. "We save them and send them to the tax office. And about once a year they send us a complete prick."

In theSun (March 27, Pg 10), former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad was quoted as saying that 'Malays have to acknowledge that they have contributed the least (in taxes) to making Malaysia a model country and to its current status in the world'. More quote:

The government used taxes from the people to develop the country, but who contributed the most in taxes?

The Chinese! Their success in business has made them the biggest contributors in taxes.

Will Dr Mahathir count in the 'A Few Good Men' Roll of Honour?

Apparently, Dr M has to pass the first hurdle like Uncle Ling, for "Dr Ling has been an exemplary political retiree, keeping his peace and volunteering his assistance when asked, never interfering but still providing his views and inputs privately".

The latest income-tax form has been greatly simplified. It consists of only three parts:
1. How much did you make last year?
2. How much do you have left?
3. Send amount listed in part 2.

Nothing personal or meant to be offensive. Just in jest o.k!...I guess in the Malaysian Income tax they unleash not just a single prick but a whole lot of them on unsuspecting tax payers ah!

Well, I expect the taxmen to work even harder these days as Govt coffers are running dry. My advise is to hit the LHDN earlier this year before the traditional end April rush. And don't forget to register yourself for on-line assessment this time round, cos I am sure that all of us here are tech-savvy. Otherwise, we wouldn't be on this blog, right? ;)

Getting Screwed

Cindy goes into the Jabatan Hasil Negara and tells the clerk
she wants a refund for the
overpayment she paid because of an oversight. The clerk tells her that he
can't give her a refund because it has never been done before. All of a sudden,
Cindy throws her arms up in the air and starts screaming

"GRAB MY BREASTS!! GRAB MY BREASTS!!!"

The clerk, not knowing what to do, runs to get the IRD manager.
The manager comes up to Cindy and asks,
"What's wrong?"
She explains the situation with the overpayment.
He tells her that he can't give
her a refund because it has never been done before.Once again, Cindy throws her
arms up in the air and starts screaming

"GRAB MY BREASTS!! GRAB MY BREASTS!!! "

In shock, the IRD manager asks,
"Ma'am, why are you saying that?"
In a huff, Cindy says,

"BECAUSE, I LIKE TO HAVE
MY BREASTS GRABBED
WHEN I'M GETTING SCREWED."

The last time I got a refund cheque in the post was on 11 November 1999, just 11 days before the 1999 general elections. And that refund was for the year of assessment 1999! Super efficient and super fast. Since then I have been SCREWED big time ....have never got a refund although every year since then they have owed me refunds. I thought 2004 elections I would get something...but I guess Pak Lah knew it was a sure thing, so no refunds. Maybe if I worked hard to give BN a tough time for the next general elections, I might just get my accumulated refunds by 2008?

Anyone using the digital form s?

https://e.hasil.org.my/

With so many Tun M "innovation " to create so many Malays tycoon, AP king, they still can't beat chinese in ethnics income tax ratio?

I smell something fishy here.

I agree 100% with Jeff.

JEFF OOI says: No. It wasn't me. It's actually Dr Mahathir Mohamad who said what you thought I said. And I don't have to agree to everything Dr M had said during his retirement.

The CHINESE keep on giving and giving, yet we are the 2nd class Malaysian...I wonder what we need to do to get equal treatment...Perhaps all Chinese must POTONG....What do you guys think? I think we should ask the G to come out with a graph detailing the income tax contribution by ethcnic...

i am using the digital forms (e-filing).

Good old "M" is at it again. When he was in in office he was a politician and now out of office, he is a statesman!

Never mind, allow our good old "M" a chance to air his views. I believe that it is a good thing that we have a Whip outside of the government to whip the current government into shape.

It does make sense to be candid although certain field will be fuming for such a statement. Never mind, Dr. M it does have a waking-up call lest people think they own this Bolehland and without the other Malaysians, this Bolehland will not have got to where it is today!

As I have mentioned previously, if you need a chatting partner, I am readily available because I served with you before.

Dr Mahathir should be given every encouragement and support to say what he wants to say for as much time and energy as he has left.

For one, it's important because, of all the PMs we've had (and is having), he's the one with the incisive brain and clear speech.

For two, it's important because his is the first perdana transition which is complete so far - he's around to comment on both sides of the government fence now.

As to whether doing so may or may not cause partisanship rifts in the present administration, leave it to the intelligence of the rakyat, who, in case anyone thinks otherwise, have been out of the cots and running around blocks for a long time.

A good govt must have guts. Otherwise it'll always be trying to maintain a status quo that cages the people from developing their mental horizons faster and wider.

And that's as bad as doing the wrong thing in this bullet-train world. The last train just left the station.

peterpan and Neil, I agree that TDM does add colour to politics in Malaysia with his often caustic views and no-holds barred comments. However, there have been instances whereby I have to question his motives and agenda. For example, the AP system which he lambasted has been around for a long time and I am sure that he knows who the recipients of the APs are. Even if he did not, as PM then, he could very well have asked for it and he would get it. Why ask for it only after he has retired? Why only criticise the system which was in place when he still reigned? Why only ask for a change when he is retired? Doesn't he know that it is easier to change from the inside than the outside? My respect for TDM would have increased in leaps and bounds if he has brought his up when he was still PM. Instead my respect for him went down the longkang when he spoke out criticially of a system which he could have easily abolished or changed when he was still in charge.

thanks, Samarium, and i agree with your comments.

M2 knew about the APs; he was confronted about it in one of the cabinet meetings; his response was a stony silence. The only conclusion one can draw was that he had allowed it, and that he had exercised "benign" neglect in so many other cases of downright drainage of national and state funds because he saw something could be recouped to serve other agendas in each case. Perhaps his mind worked tricks on him - "since things would get more expensive in the future, spend now and earn political mileage as well". Without thinking what would be the actual total cost down the line.

However, encouraging him to speak out more will enable him to confront himself - so that everyone else who's his "legasi" will get to realize how politicians do damage onto the nation and the people by doing damage onto their own integrity.

All baggages of history have to be opened sooner or later. In Malaysia's case, we've long exceeded the baggage allowance at the check-in counter. Jettison, or pay the price of a new ticket? Only time will tell, and the plane's taking off.

i'm starting to get metaphysical!

Airsnort,

putra of bolehlands SACRIFICED alot by giving us Chinese the citizenship, we should be grateful...-_-"

anyway, tak suka u boleh keluar!(quoted from u know who).

don't you love this country?

I do love this country but at the same time I pity those narrow minded chauvinists u-know-who that sez if u don't like it u can get out. 50 to 100 years from now, will his name be ranked in the greatest minds ever produced by Bolehland? mahathir might get into it but them a******es will be forgotten immediately after they retire /kicked out from the ruling party!
our former premier seem to hold high regard for the Chinese businessmen and suggests that the putras learn from them. You think that's easy? putras have been lulled into complacency like the proverbial frog in the pot of water that's slowly being heated. Mr. Frog might be comfortable and just remain there but eventually it will turn into frog soup! putras won't learn from the Chinese...how many putras can you see in bookstores & libraries? how many putras can you see training their kids to man the stalls or family business? not counting the cronies, of course. *sigh* just pay your taxes on time guys and gals...
