Star's AudioFile unplugged

A Little Bird says The Star is shutting down AudioFile, the Thursday section for AV geeks, music and musicians -- from novices to esoterics -- in Star Two.

Reason? The pages do not generate sufficient advertising revenue

I bought my first CD player in 1989 after reading Sujesh Pavithran 's reviews and talking to him personally. I bought my Ibanez humbucker in 2004 after reading the 440Hz reviews. The cable that pumps up the music in most Malaysians is that decades-long.

Now it goes unplugged becasue The Star is not in a busines for knowledge-quest charity. It's more for pure-play money.

what a shame its closing down. I started out in hi-fi here, getting quite a few bargains from the audiomart section. It's always been my only local hi-fi information source.

Anyone else know of any other local hi-fi related communities online?

I always enjoy my acoustic guitar review as it offers an unbiased review as well as the hi fi...

Shouldn't the audioFile gang should start a separate magazine . I am sure that there are a lot of hifi and musicians buff that will buy in. Separate magazine can create more advertising space ..

It's alright, really, we have lots of information on the web anyway. I guess it's a natural progression.

Awshucks!

I always looked forward for that section every Thursday since we Malaysians are so deprived of such information. Even audio mags are hard to find nowadays not to mention too damn expensive!

BTW, I think they also recently ended the Childrens' stories section on Sundays! It was the only one section my 10 year old son could enjoy and improve his English on. I guess that it was "not making any $$$" either.

Well... good things never last...

I do enjoy reading that column from time to time. I believe there are those who look forward to it like me towards NST's Car, Bikes & Trucks! My absolute favourite on Sundays!

my first CD player was also in 1989 - a Marantz CD-40.

wah I still remembered some heavy flame war last time when I was in school.... all because of the reviews from audiofile. Man those were the days....

Thanks guys! Never really thanked you before, so there. Cheers, and good luck.

Audiofile is the reason I buy The Star on Thursdays (I buy NST for other days)If this news is true then no more The Star for me then...
