After Gmail Talk, Gmail and Gmail Chat are one
Mail and IM are unified and no longer two separate applications. Did you notce it on the right-hand left-hand column since yesterday?
We are already so used to Gmail + Gmail Talk before this.

Firefox users using the AdBlock extension might need to disable it to allow Gmail Chat to work, as stated in Google's support section

Before this one, Google Talk wasn't that good as it's. Less feature and I heard nothing from them for quite a time. Maybe I would consider this one when I got the time.
