Jeff Ooi is the founder of USJ.com.my, a grassroot-managed community portal, launched in 1999, targetting Malaysia's K-generation. He is an e-business consultant for vertical industries, an Open Source advocate, and a columnist in Malaysian Business, a 33-year-old business journal.Six years after launching USJ.com.my, Jeff initiated another portal for the Community of Practice (CoP) in digital photography, LensaMalaysia.com, which was launched in September 2005.

Jeff is a blogger recognised internationally. In December 2004, he was invited to Harvard Law School as a panel speaker for Internet & Society organized by the Berkman Center for Internet and Society. In February 2005, he was invited as a moderator for AsiaSource Free and Open Source Software training camp in Bangalore, India.In June 2005, his weblog at www.jeffooi.com was voted by Paris-based Reporters Without Boundaries (RSF) as the FREEDOM BLOG ASIA, a coveted award selected among 60 blogs shortlisted from throughout the world.
In July 2005, he was invited to be a facilitator at the AdvocacyDev II Convergence, a Free and Open Source applications training camp held in San Francisco.
After speaking at the Expression under Repression event at WSIS 2005 Tunis in November 2005, he participated in the workshop on human rights and state-sponsored Internet filtering, co-hosted in London December 2005, by the OpenNet Initiative (a collaborative partnership between the Citizen Lab at the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto, Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School, and the Advanced Network Research Group at the Cambridge Security Programme, University of Cambridge) and Human Rights Watch.
Jeff was also the sole delegate and speaker from Malaysia to Global Voices Summit held at the Reuters Headquarters, Canary Wharf, London, December 2005. He was delighted to meet face-to-face the Southeast Asian-based bloggers he helped network into GVO, namely Beth Kanter and ThaRum (Cambodia), and Enda Nasution (Thailand/Indonesia).
In January 2006, he was a panel speaker at the Asian New Media Forum held in Kuala Lumpur, deliveringtwo papers on Life as a Practising Blogger; and State-initiated Internet Filtering.
